Has anyone ever heard of this. We live in SC, but a few times a year need to go to Western NY. On the way, we always overnight at a Residence Inn, off 81 n PA. We prepaid the night, and at checkout was told we owed $4.10 for a Parking Recapture Fee that began 6 weeks ago!!! Now, as most places off a major highway, the only other parking is the highway itself!

Sounds like a money grab for something that should be included in the rate. It isn't like most of the people staying at the property are flying in and don't have a car. I suspect they recently resurfaced their parking lot and needed a way to pay for it without having to also pay commissions on it?

I can't speak to this hotel specifically, but they have to honor the rate you were quoted at the time of booking. Over the years, I've had various fees increase or be added and never had a problem having the hotel waive the additional fee once I show them the reservation (though on occasion it has required a manager's intervention).

(BTW, new taxes are another story...you do have to pay those).

On the reverse, I've seen a number of reservations where there was an additional quoted charge, usually $5, but ultimately I've never had to pay that charge. The only add on charge I've had to pay were for resort fees and generally I'm able to get part of that waived or additional options since much of what that covers is included with status anyway.

Generally parking fees are related to the amount of available free parking surrounding the location. Supply/demand.

I did get the fee taken off. I did do some research today and found that some franchised
Residence inns, Fairfield and Hilton Gardens have recently added this parking recovery fee
in the last few months. It just seems silly when most of these brands have parking lots and have always emphasized complementary parking, the tax on the recovery fee was strange also, 24 cents.. We are at another RI now, and they do not have a parking recovery fee. My husband and I are both titanium, and always pay resort fees at other z Marriott brands. Looking at the above post , some elite benefits are part of the resort fees, we have never had any if these options waived for us.
My post was just curiosity on changes and if this is becoming a common charge in the future.

For the last 10 years, this place has been our halfway stop heading North. Recovery Fee just imposed 6 weeks ago, no sign, no mention anywhere. If you don’t park here, you are on highway, 81.

I just stayed one night at the Residence Inn Phoenix Mayo Clinic and was told by the front desk that there is a parking fee. They automatically waved the fee without me asking and I assume that it is because I'm Titanium. I recall the same thing happening last year. There is really no reason to charge for parking in this open suburban area with lots of open space.

It's the rural/suburban equivalent of the destination or resort fees which have become so prevalent. Though I suppose it's actually less offensive - you could not use your own car to arrive at a property while there is no way to avoid paying a destination or resort fee (though some Elites can get a small refund for any 'benefit' for which they are already entitled due to their Bonvoy status).
