Parking at Ocean 22

Hey all,

Was wondering about the parking situation at Ocean 22. We are checking in next week and was wondering if anyone is in the same situation that I am in. We have a Ford Explorer with a roof rack and cargo and see that the height limit is 7 feet 1 inch to get into the garage which I am over about 2 inches in height. Is parking around the garage exclusively for HGVC or is that all shared with the city? I know that next week is going to be on the busier end but was wondering if anybody else experienced the same while staying there.

We were there in November. My recollection is that the entrance is lower, but there is plenty of height once you get inside the garage, but I wasn't paying any particular attention. There were certainly lots of larger SUVs inside. We were driving a Nissan Rogue, which is quite a bit smaller than an Explorer, so had no problem. We also had nothing on the roof, so if you have a cargo carrier on top of the Explorer's roof, it may be a problem.

There are outside parking spaces adjacent to the parking garage, but I don't know who controls them. They did not seem to have any meters. I would contact Ocean 22 itself to see what they suggest. An alternate solution would be to pay for valet parking ($15 a day...$10 a day for HGVC members). Then it is their problem instead of yours.

That is my suggestion also (843-848-0022). There is also parking across the street in the preview center (HGVC sales office). Maybe they would let oversized vehicles park there.

I would call them. There must be a way to deal with this. Many people travel with roof cargo boxes.
 
Thanks all for your help. I did call them before this post and they were just telling me the allowed height and that there is "some" parking on the street. I will call back to see about the preview center. May have some luck there. I'm shocked more people haven't run into this scenario

The concierge should also be calling you prior to your visit. They will be trying to provide useful information, but they will also try to get you in for an owner's update. That also will be an opportunity for you to make your request about parking.

I was there recently and the concierge did not call me prior to my visit. Even when I got there service was minimal. I checked in, no verbal info except a sheet of paper. They didn't even give me the pool wristbands. I found out I needed them when I went to the pool.

The parking garage of Ocean 22 is at the corner of Withers Drive and 22nd Avenue North.
The around at parking garage is public parking lots (with the meter).

Hi Monty,

Just got back from Ocean 22 on Saturday. We had a Honda pilot with cargo carrier. I spoke with the bellman (AL J) and he verified with Brittany (the manager at the preview center) that we could park in that lot for the week. Our height was 7'11 inches. At 7' 3" you are probably good in the lower levels of the garage.
Enjoy your stay. Not sure if you have kids but be sure to take advantage of the free mini golf, free water park, and free DVD now rentals in the lobby!

One more thing.... All those spaces around the garage are now metered. 25cents for 15 minutes so it adds up quick. As an owner or guest of an owner you can do Valet for $10 a day and where to park it becomes their problem!

I knew that someone would be in the same situation I would be in! Great advice all!

Now I have to research Parc Soleil as I will be driving there right after Ocean 22!

Plenty of outside and garage parking there. (At least when i was last there two years ago)...

Nice resort! Have fun. Sounds like you have a fun summer planned!
