Paris Hotels

Okay, I thought I had started a thread on this a while back, but I can't find it. Wanting some information on Paris hotel options. We currently have a five night travel package reservation for Paris Marriott Champs Elysees, however Paris Marriott Opera Ambassador Hotel and Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel are still available on points.

Should we switch? It seems that most here seem to covet the Paris Marriott Champs Elysees. We are gold elite status. Do any treat elites better than others? It seems that Paris Marriott Champs Elysees doesn't have a lounge, so one would get free breakfast. Are the lounges at the others worth switching or should we stick it out at Paris Marriott Champs Elysees?

We stayed there last year. We got breakfast...full buffet in the restaurant...as platinum, but not sure if it applies to gold. The room was fine by European standards. Seasoned European travelers sort of scoff because the Champs Elysees is crowded and touristy, but we were tourists and we thought it was great. If this is not your 10th time to Paris you will be very happy with the location.

This does not directly answer your question, but we stayed at the Ren Arc de Triomphe last year. It's just a stone's throw from the Arc, around the corner from the Champs, and walkable to the Eiffel Tower. No lounge, so we got a full breakfast in the restaurant each morning as Gold Elite members. Would stay there again. Many small cafes and restaurants within walking distance too. Could be a decent point savings alternative.

We stayed at the Champs Elysees for 5 days over Christmas. As Golds we got the full breakfast. The buffet is quite extensive and held us well for mos the day. The location is great but, yes, the rooms are small. Staff is really nice.

Never stayed at the others you mentioned, but have stayed at the Champs and had a great experience. Location is great, walkable to a lot of sites, near a hop on hop off stop, dining and cafe's within an easy walk, etc, etc.

I was Gold at the time and like others have reported, I also received free full breakfast buffet each morning. Got there early in the morning after an early morning flight arrival, and they even offered us the free buffet breakfast that first morning as we waited for our room to be ready. Great service like that you remember!!

Whatever you decide... have a great trip.

We too stayed here and found it to be excellent. I would stay here again, should the opportunity arise! Wait! It was the Renaissance Arc de Defense! Oh well, we loved it!

The Vendome is smaller, more boutique feeling and a short walk to tons of sights, but the rooms are small. The Champs is in the midst of the tourist bustle, which some prefer, the rooms are larger, and it is easily accessible to most of what you will want to see on foot or via metro. As a Platinum Premier, they both provided breakfast, but the Vendome's is more generous, as the Champs property scaled back the complimentary breakfast a few years ago.

We have stayed at both the Renaissance Vendome and the Arc de Triomphe, and we liked the location of the Vendome the best. Very near Tuileries and the Louvre.

I am jumping on the Champs-Élysées band wagon. We went there 5-6 years ago.

We really enjoyed the hotel and loved the location. You don't have to worry when wondering around close by. This is important with all the safety issues today.

Also, we used the concierge daily. ON night we went to a cabaret show right down the boulevard, and the concierge issued tickets were literally front row on a sold out show.

I had the opportunity to stay at the Champs and Vendome in 2014 on points. I stayed at the Vendome as a Platinum Premier. We were upgraded to a larger room after complaining about the small one we were originally booked into, on the 2nd floor right across from the busy and noisy Irish pub on the corner. The complimentary breakfast in the restaurant/lounge was quite generous and very sufficient for our tastes. I liked the Vendome for it's fabulous location -- I would find this location superior to the Champs because of its walking proximity to the major museums, Tuileries, Palais-Royal, and Île de la Cité. A metro stop is right at Tuileries so you can easily go to other places in Paris.

I read through the thread on FT and through everyone's responses here. Thanks for all the info. I think we might be overthinking this and will just stick it out with our current reservation at Champs-Élysées. We will likely use the hop on hop off and with a stop close by, Champs-Élysées will be a good option. Also being close to Charles de Gaulle Etoile, it will be easy for our day trip to Disneyland Pairs.

After a missed connection due to immigration at IAD, we returned from Europe early on Wednesday morning. I am quite happy that we chose to stay with Champs Elysees. Great location with a hop on hop off stop on L'Open tours just a block away. We had a great time in Paris. Though Paris was only a portion of our trip, we cruised the 10 nights before and spent two nights in London after. Free breakfast was great and were even able to turn our last days voucher in for the 750 points since we were checking out early before breakfast was being served.

Paris was a wonderful city, though I think when we return to Europe again it will be Rome that we return to.

Thinking back on this trip, we saw so much;

• Leaning Tower of Pisa
• Roman Coliseum
• Trevi Fountain
• Roman Forum
• Amalfi Coast (Naples)
• Acropolis of Athens
• Eiffel Tower
• Mona Lisa
• Notre Dame (Though we thought the one in Montreal was more interesting)
• Windsor Castle Tour
• Buckingham Palace Tour
• Westminster Abbey
• Westminster and Big Ben
• Plus Seven Hard Rock Cafes

The big cities we visited were Barcelona, Marseille, Florence, Rome, Naples, Athens, Paris and London.

Our impression of each was different and each is unique in its own way. Rome was very clean and seemed like a great place to go back to. Paris too was rather clean, though the demographic was much different. More beggars on the streets. Athens was a blighted city, which was sad to see with all the graffiti everywhere. Naples just looked plain dirty. While we didn't go in to the city, others on the cruise that did said it was dirty. Their buildings didn't look like they had been painted or washed on the outside since they were build, and they all looked like they were build before the 70s. We toured the Amalfi Coast on our stop in Naples. It makes the road to Hana look like a birthday party. Everything in Paris was old where London was a mix of old and new. Buckingham Palace didn't seem as large from the outside as I had always pictured it. Unfortunately for the last two days in Paris and in London, there was rain off and on, but we made the best of it. It was a great trip.

That was really a great trip. Visiting Paris soon, always enjoy my trips there. Looking forward to Italy in the spring after a 40 year absence :ignore:

I am staying at the Marriott Champs Elysees right now and its incredibile! LOVE the breakfast buffet, has wonderful hummus! For the Platinum arrival gift I took the fruits dipped in chocolate and 2 drinks and the strawberries and chocolate were oh lala good! They also sent a welcome card to me with a lovely cannister of caramels and 2 bottles of juice with a lovely welcome card. We have a 6th floor room and its quite large , actually! LOVING IT!! I could live here! And the weather is PERFECT!
