I'm thinking "clickbait" ;)

I agree. In fact, what chain restaurant was not in that article?

McDonald's was not included in this article. LOL.
This is a strange article because Subways, Applebee's, The Cheesecake Factory, and Taco Bell, Starbucks are doing very in the Tidewater Virginia areas.

Starbucks are in the process of adding two more stores in the Chesapeake,VA areas.

We just did a road trip on the NJ Turnpike and every time we stopped, the line for Starbucks had at least ten people waiting.

That's interesting about Subway. The franchisees I'm familiar with hate Subway and wish they could get out without losing their shirt. I just read an article that franchisees closed 3,000 Subway locations in the five years ending 2020.

IME anywhere with a drive-thru function has done and is still doing really well during the pandemic. The lines I've observed at all of the fast food chains, coffee chains, etc., are always long where I live regardless of the time of day or night. Other places like Applebees with 15 minute pickup parking spots already provisioned are also surviving pretty well. Most of the restaurants without a drive-thru capability are adapting as best they can - plugging into Grubhub, Doordash, etc., but aren't doing as well in comparison, or at least that's how it appears to me.

A buddy of mine was talking about how many restaurants are bracing for the possibility that many folks have become used to ordering in - and are spinning up warehouse locations where they can spend a fraction of the price on retail real estate and still honor delivery and pickup orders. Apparently there are entire warehouse locations being built or overhauled that will essentially be new food courts that are only for delivery and takeout along this line. So while many retail locations may shut down - you may still be able to order online for delivery or pickup from the same chain.

The only problem in the Tidewater VA area is the shortage of workers, who want to work in the fast food industry. IMHO only.

Count me out. I don't like cold, soggy food. That may be ok for others, but not for me.

Kurt

One must be judicious when ordering for delivery and only order food that holds up well under such circumstances.

Pot roast with green beans and mashed potatoes -
Cheeseburger with an order of fries - (n)

The only restaurant on the lists that I kind of like is Red Robin, mostly because I like the original owner's. It's a nice place to take the grand kids for their birthday. Kind of a tradition for us.

Yes, some foods holds up better than others for delivery, but for me, if I want restaurant food, I will go to a restaurant for the whole experience. I have no desire to pay restaurant prices for food delivered to me in a cardboard or plastic box with no atmosphere, service, etc. I'd rather heat up a can of beans at home. :ROFLMAO:
