We were wandering around an art show and I found a piece I like. The artist and I talked about this painting and he offered it to me for a very decent price which included shipping. While tempting as this was, I decided I didnt know if he would follow through so I had to leave it be. After researching the name on his card he is the real deal.

So Im on the fence but leaning to trust this 80 + year young artist. The piece is about 6 x 3. If it wasnt for needing to ship this I would have bought it. I might still.

I agree, I would buy it too. There is nothing like am original piece of art that you love.

It's an interesting piece. I like it too. 🤙🏻

It reminds me of my wife and I going on road trips off the beaten path in the Silver Bullet. We did buy a monkey riding a Schwin bike with a parrot on the handlebar riding a desolate road on a trip a few years ago. This one is way different. In the outside light it really picks up colors. It's kind of on the large side at 6 ft wide and 3 ft high but we have plenty of wall room.

The problem for me is trusting this artist or anyone really. Even though it's a decent price, it's a high enough price to be cautious is my reasoning.

Buy it, please may sure it will be ship to you immediately. Ask about the time frame of the shipping and the name of the shipping company. May sure it will be properly boxed and wrapped and the content insured. IMHO.

Pay with a credit card for your protection.

Is this an oil painting on a frame and where is this artist signature on this painting ? Did the artist date this painting?

Please take a photo with the artist and save it.

Have you researched this painting and artist ?

6 x 3 is a very large Western large painting. This artist and painting should have history behind it.

Wow. What medium is it? A great conversation piece.

I liked that covered wagon traveling in the
desert.

To show that our tastes are similar, this is a print from an artist friend in Boise. The original is 6 X 10 feet above the reception desk in a prominent hotel there. Mine is about 2.5 X 4 feet above the TV. No Conestoga wagon, but I have sheep.

It's an oil painting. The upper right mountain has a small smear where the paint smushed meaning it's easy enough to damage.

I read his resume on his website which includes an entire lifetime of being an artist. I met him in La Quinta Village at the outdoor art show on Saturday. I know nothing about the artist other than reading his resume. Maybe I will drive by his address.

What exactly don’t you trust? Not understanding?

Have you performed a catalog search of this painting and artist?
I used to shop on Saturday's morning at the Fine Art Shop in Newport News, VA for some original local art pieces.
I used to purchase some painting from an art gallery in Las Vegas decades ago.

We have bought original art and #ed Prints from Mexico; Canada; Hawaii; Oregon; Utah; Arizona; New Mexico; Washington; California; etc. We have 2 Rules. 1. We both have to like it right away. 2. We have to agree where it will go in the House. After 20+ years of collecting we now rotate the Art depending on the Season. We also have collected other Styles of Art including Stone Carving, Bronze, furniture, etc. We have told our kids do not take the Art to Goodwill it is not from Target/Walmart.

I met him at an outdoor art festival and knew nothing of him at the time. He said he could have it sent to my home. The first thing that made me question doing this is I would be paying for this and hoping he fulfilled his part. Then there is the possibility of damage in shipping. I don't like these scenarios.

When it comes to over a few hundred dollars, my trust level diminishes but it's in my comfort level. When it comes to over a few thousand, I really have no trust.

If you were to have purchased it on credit card, you would have certain protections offered by the credit card company in the event the artist never followed through.

We have a mix sort of like you. Only a few are real oil paintings from real artists. Some are signed prints. Some are signed by unknown artists. My wife allows me to place whatever we end up with whereever I want in the house. I think she wants this large artwork to replace the 10 ft. marlin over the TV, lol.

I would be using a shipping insurance so the damage would just be a hassle if it happened. I looked and my credit cards don't cover fine art. It does cover fraud protection though.

I think it's kind of like owning a timeshare. :) Not necessarily an investment, but something you do/buy because you enjoy it. Buy the painting. It will bring you joy every time you see it.

To the OP, suggestions only if this piece of art is still available at a reasonable price buy it and take it to UPS, FedX or OfficeMax and have them bubble wrap this piece of art in a secure boxing package.

My second suggestion, you will need to price each shipping vendor for the best total shipping costs, packaging and delivery to your address.

On my last purchase at the Vegas art gallery about ten (10) years ago; the shipping costs, packaging and delivery to my home added about to the final cost. $300-$400 dollars for my painting delivery . I still treasure my purchase and painting.

Good luck

Could you use a credit card? If so, that’s what I would have done. You don’t get it or it comes damaged you dispute the charge.

Yes, I would use a credit card but the two credit cards I brought do not cover damage in transit regarding fine art. The credit card covers fraud and excludes damage from third party shippers. Shipping insurance would be needed to cover any damage in shipping.

Interesting is if I was able to haul the painting home it would have damage protection for the purchase price.

What it's coming down to is it's too much of a hassle to deal with in the middle of this trip because of the size of the painting and the vehicle we are driving. Maybe a roof rack on the Lincoln, lol.

Bill

Have the artist make a print. :)🖼️👨‍🎨
