Hi Scott - We have tried this a couple times before, and it's just not doable. Tuggers are only a tiny percentage of owners, and there is no way to reach non-Tuggers.
1. Starwood vets and chooses who they allow on the ballot
2. They never (yes, never) get a voting quorum of members.
3. When there is no quorum, the rules state that the current board chooses the new board member(s)
4. The board will select who ever Starwood tells them to choose.
Here is an example: A few years ago, a Tugger ran for the SDO board and got a lot of support from TUG. The Tugger actually got the most votes from members. But there was no voting quorum, so the board chose 2 other people to fill the positions - as recommend by Starwood.
WSJ-VGV Owners were allowed to vote on 2 (of 5) board members w/o SVO-WSJ using their vote. This is how Bob and Phil got onto the WSJ-VGV BOD, and why VGV has the best transparency in the SVO network (and perhaps the reason VGV MFs have decreased 5 years in row).
Since Starwood virtually picks the board members, by choosing whom they allow to run, they have the boards firmly under their control. The boards are fully aware of, and embrace, Starwood's "untoward influence." Also - have you tried to contact a board member? You have to go through Starwood.
Let's get a willing board member and start lobbying by email, letter, phone call or whatever,
Undue influence is one thing to assume -- it's another to see in action
A Focused campaign can change dynamics
I read column where Starwood board members approachable in Maui--I wish they asked focused questions rather than personal but they were treated respectfully and with decorum.
OI think since Starwood SVN and Hotels in a State of Flux and uncertainty now is time to focus a campaign to influence future
Lets get some willing people and rally around them and try again now?
