I was just walking back from the pool, here at the resort, and I noticed something;

All of the balconies at this TS here in Orlando have outdoor ceiling fans....none of which are moving. The wife and I like the fresh air during the day, so we open the doors and windows, turn on all the ceiling fans and let the world in. At night we use the a/c for a good sleep.

So - does anybody use the fans in the unit?

How about the fans on the balconies?

How much is allocated for outdoor fans (are they special weather proof to stand up to moisture, wind etc).

Why I put this in buying, selling, renting is this:

We have 2 balconies with a fan on each. Figure the cost of this at least $100 per. A couple hundred fans for the building mean about $20K - 2 buildings here = $40K for something no one seems to use.

Can the money be spent somewhere else?

Do you buy a timeshare if it does/doesn't have fans, or is it just a nice touch - make it seem a little more 'caribbean'?

Are you a fan of fans? :D

(mods pls feel free to put this into another category, if you see fit)

I'm from FL and with a RESOUNDING YES, I am a fan of fans on the balcony. Let me tell you why.

This time of year, the mosquitos may not be bad in the evening (this time of year) but when the air starts to get heavy (in the summer evenings), that ceiling fan will keep the skeeters off of ya pretty well. They don't like air movement....

Just my $0.02....

If you don't mind saying, where are your staying? I can't wait to get back to BC in April! Enjoy Disney and pull the mouse's tail fer me!

definitely use the fans inside and outside. liked the ones in orlando so much that i put one on my balcony at home.

they are pretty wonderful - allows you to be outside when otherwise the heat and humdity would make it unbearable.

I live in Virginia and have fans in my MBR and the family roo. All of which get quite a lot of usage except in the winter. Planning on moving to FL in the future and will definitly have more when we build down there. Had not thought about putting one on the porch, but may well do that too.

Patty,
If you are building, it is MUCH cheaper to have the builder put in the wire and block and if you decide to put in the fan, you can do it yourself rather than do it after the fact... We have ceiling fans in almost every room and it allows us to raise the thermostat and save $$$$.

Patty,
Did the closing of all the rest stops finally get to you ?

We have fans in the 3 bedrooms, LR and 2 in our lanai. We use them almost year because they really do move the air around. Our builder gave us 2 and we bought the others. They are the 'indoor' / 'outdoor' kind. The wiring was put in while building and we had the electrical put the fans together and then hang them. We did have to buy the poles to hang them from. It did take awhile for us to remember to turn them on because we didn't have any up north.

Ajdon-

Good idea. Know what you mean about the temp. I'll get them to wire most of the rooms and then add them later. We use ours a lot on those borderline days when we just don't want to turn the AC on yet. We are going to get part of the house completed and have 3 rooms roughed in for the future, so a few more fans is no big deal.

I have ceiling fans in all rooms but not on the deck. Use them year round in Winter Haven.

We were at Worldmark Kingstown Reef - which we really liked, when we noticed all the still fans. Nice place, very quiet. Would trade back in, in a heartbeat!
