does anyone know, generally, what does an insurance company pay a doctor/store for a custom orthotic? I ordered an orthotic from Foot Solutions and am curious about the price if my insurance company were paying. thanks in advance

Mine paid $0.

It's time to get new ones. I'm expecting to pay the full price out-of-pocket again, unfortunately.

I've had orthotics for 20 years. Insurance paid for my first pair, but those days are long gone. Expect to pay the full price. That said, it's important to get a correct fit. Don't go for the cheapest ones. Correct fit and ones that will last 3 to 5 years will be money well spent.

Cheers!

My insurance paid in the past. This is the first time I am paying out of pocket and they are costing $400. My mom just suggested asking if they'll take whatever the insurance companies usually reimburse which I thought was worth a shot. I dont know how much that is though.

It will depend upon what your physician has as a deal with the insurance company. It truly varies. And what your deductible and plan is. Mine cost $400 10 months ago. My insurance plan has a high deductible, so we paid for it out of pocket but it has saved the day; my feet were killing me.

Now if they'd only make cute orthotic shoes!

I just got new orthodics and now don't remember what the insurance company paid for them (not as much as the company billed them). I want to say that it was more than $400, I think it was in the neighborhood of $500 as it seems like they were billed over $600. I've been lucky - I had a set that lasted 8+ years then finally fell apart. The replacement ones weren't designed as well (the doctor didn't write it up right) and after a couple of years I gave up on them. My insurance paid for the new set, even though the other ones weren't that old (it could have been the fact that the doctor also requested physical therapy at the same time helped in the approval process, I don't know).
