The CTA blue line goes into the airport and you would take that downtown. Get off at Clark/Lake stop and you are a couple blocks from your destination. Google CTA transportation maps and you can see the specific directions. It should be easy!
If you don't feel like walking, go up the elevator on Clark and lake and catch any southbound line on the L. Hop off at Randolph/wabash and you would be within a building or so from Michigan Plaza.
Thank you for suggesting how to get there... Now I have an other question. Where in DT should we stay for two nights. My daughter wants to visit some colleges and I want to be close to blu line for our Sunday early morning ride to ORD. Thanks in advance.
What schools are you visiting? Will you have transportation? UIC is right on the blue line but Northwestern is far north and University of Chicago (UC) south. Both are accessible by public transportation but may take awhile to get to.
We are back and thanks to TUGGERs help we managed to get around quite well. We stayed at Wyndham Blake and used 3 day CTA pass. My concern was how to make it from ORD to DT in shortest possible time. Now we know that Blue Line starts at ORD and it is easy to find by first timers. Google search was suggesting some walking and one bus to nearest Blue line stop... We visited University of Chicago, IIT an Layola. Miracle mile and Hancock Tower at sunset were great. Chicago changed a lot since my last DT visit twenty years ago. It looks like we will visit at least two more times this year and my plan is to wait for warm weather. 45 F in Minneapolis and 45 F in Chicago feels very different.
