Last summer I exchanged into Hilton Grand Vacations at McAlpin-Ocean Plaza for 3 weeks starting in late April. We are going to Orlando before that and I would rather just spend more time there, (we are getting the cheap annual weekday passes) and then spend a week in Pompano Beach. The resort not having a pool and us not having a car makes the thought of 3 weeks there too long. A week would have been great but I wanted to maximize the exchange fee. What are my options with this reservation? I did not purchase insurance.

1. Cancel your reservation
2. use your reservation.
3. Buy a guest cert and have a friend use it.

You do realize that the resort is across the street from the ocean, miami beach has a ton of public transportation, restaurants and nightlife nearby.

There are also a bunch of museums and theaters and shows...

You could go out on boats for fishing or leisure. The miami zoo is nice (but you would probably need a car to get there).

There are all kinds of activities to be done..including shopping on Lincoln road..

They do have a hot tub on the roof of each building and I believe that there is a public pool you could probably pay to access if memory serves me right.

Instead of feeling like it is too much time, why not use that time to discover the little gems that most tourists don't make time for.

When I first got the idea to book it and then actually booked it I was very excited. I actually checked out the hotel in September. I just think that after 3 weeks of Orlando that 3 weeks there with 2 3 years olds will be too much. If it was a trip on its own it would be great but we already put off our Disney trip where we are meeting up with family once.

Why not call RCI and ask them if they can do you a favor, and move you somewhere else? Seriously.

I was on a two-week trip several years ago, booked into an Orlando t/s for a week, to be followed by a second week in New Orleans. A Katrina-like storm was drowning Orlando while we were there, and was headed toward New Orleans. Rather than ruin both weeks, we opted to cancel N.O. and stay a second week in Orlando, since the rain was moving out. it turned out to be a good decision.

I called RCI and asked what we could work out. They found me a resort in Orlando comparable to the one we were staying in, and switched the reservation from N.O. to that one for our second week. I don't think they even charged me for doing it.

Can't hurt to call and ask.

As a follow up, we are on day 7 of our 3 week stay here. Tomorrow the plan is to rent a car and go to Daytona beach till Sunday/Monday and then Bonnet Creek till May 18. We have already stayed at the other resorts this trip and my kids like them both. I have the 4 bedroom presidential for a week at Ocean Walk and then a few 4 bedroom presidentials at Bonnet Creek for the time we will be there. That makes the decision easier. I had been hoping to rent those units and have rented some but still have space for my family of 4. It will be a big change from a small 1 bedroom back to a 4 bed/4bath.

The location in south beach is great but does not work with two kids and no car.
