This is a very ambiguous question. It is not clear that Alaska is the furthest east. That uses the international date line as the division between east and west. I would choose the prime meridian which runs through Greenwich, England as the dividing line between east and west in which case Maine is the furthest east. There is a third possibility. If you were to take the geographic center of the US and go east and west, which would be the furthest. That would again have Alaska as the furthest west, but Maine as the furthest east.
