We are planning a last minute vacation to Orlando the beginning of February. It will only be 2 adults. Orange Lake West Village has come up with a 2 bedroom, Vacation Village at Parkway has a 1 bedroom, but it is the small one with the mini-kitchen, and a 1 bedroom with full kitchen at Silver Lake. It seems that there are mixed reviews on staying at OLCC West Village so I am not sure if it would be worth it for a 2 bedroom since it is only the 2 of us. Vacation Village at Parkway seems to have consistant good reviews but I hate being stuck in those small sides of lockouts sometimes, although I have never been in theirs. I really am on the fence about Silver Lake and the 1 bedroom with full kitchen. I really like having a washer and dryer in the room to wash towels especially, so I just don't know what to pick. Does anyone have any opinions?:wall:

hopefully Gary(gw007) will be along shortly. He owns at both OL and VV. He would be an excellent source for you.

I only have personal knowledge of OL so I can't compare it with the other 2 resorts. That said, I would have no problem taking a 2br exchange into the west village of OL. The west village is everything within the resort with the exception of River Island right now.

That means you could be in a golf villa, a tennis villa, a North Village unit, or and East Village unit. No unit is older than 6 years on the inside.

I have stayed at several locations at OLCC and frankly I prefer the West Village. The units are so much bigger. We have likened this to Old Key West at DVC having signifigantly larger units than the newer resorts in the DVC family.

Another point....2 bdrm also means 2 bathrooms. A nice little luxury.

I have had the opportunity of staying at both resorts within the past 2 years. Both are good resorts. They both do have there flaws though also. OL can become overcrowded at times but the property is wonderful and the service is great. VV is also a nice property but you are located right near 192. They also are very rude when it comes to trying to sell you a week. My grandparents who own 8 weeks and have owned for over 20 years, were denied a ride by from the sales office when they refused to buy a week. The sales office was like 2-3 miles from their car. They are in their 70's. It was a bit rediculous. I probably wouldn't ever stay there again on that part, but it is a nice, new property. The West Village isn't bad at OL. One of my grandparents weeks are in the WV and it is always nice when I stay with them. It is also alot less hassle having your own washer and dryer and a full kitchen. You might as well get the most out of your week. Bigger area and full amenties. I would go with OL. I am a bit biased since im only 18 and have basically grown up there and there seems to always be a bunch of cute girls there also, not that thats so mething you will be going there for. ;) I hope you have a safe, fun, and relaxing time where ever you end up going!!

VVAP Sales Pitch (January 2006).

VV is also a nice property but you are located right near 192. They also are very rude when it comes to trying to sell you a week.
We stayed a week in Vacation Village At Parkway in January 2006 -- Last Call, for less than we got for renting out our Orlando home resort unit, so we were money ahead before we ever checked in. At check-in, they sent us over to another front-desk counter for our parking pass. Over there, they invited us to get $50 & have complimentary breakfast or lunch & hear all about their resort & the opportunities for adding flexibility to our vacation ownership. We said no thanks. On Wednesday, somebody from the same place called us & invited us to get $124 & have complimentary breakfast or lunch & hear all about their resort & the opportunities for adding flexibility to our vacation ownership. We said OK -- had a nice lunch over at Columbia Restaurant in Celebration FL, listened to the pitch, said No Thanks, & collected a check for $124. The Chief Of Staff likes it when she can go on vacation & come back home afterwards with more money than she started out with.

Thanks everyone, think I will go with the OL, like you said might as well get as much out of your vacation and I forgot about the 2nd bathroom. Just hope we are lucky and get a remodeled room. However, by now, you never know. The units people complained about last year might already be redone. Anyway, it is Florida and there is no snow!! Thanks again.:)

Indy;

From your description of Vacation Village @ Parkway (VVP), it sounds like the 1-bedroom units is a "B-side" unit. VVP calls it a 1-bedroom but it really is a nice studio. It has a kitchen but no stove. There is a hotplate that you can use but I found it inconvenient. I don't remember a dishwasher in the unit and there is no washer/dryer, if these items are important to you. There may e a washer/dryer room down the hall but not in the unit itself.

Most people, myself included, would recommend the "A-side" at VVP which is about 1000 sq. ft., has a complete kitchen, washer/dryer, over-sized jacuzzi-style bathtub (although it is located in the bedroom and I prefer it in the bathroom), and VVP has a reasonably good location to Disney. If the unit is an "A-side" unit, I would give VVP more serious consideration but not the "B-side" which is the description that you gave.

As far as Orange Lake (OLCC), it is my favorite resort. I have never had a bad stay in any of the sections. I have even stayed in the studios at OLCC but I don't recommend the studios at OLCC (or anywhere else except perhaps DVC and that because people that use them at DVC, I feel, are people who would have rented motel rooms - I feel that studios don't give the home-and-away feel that you get with fully-equiped 1-bedroom and up units provide). An interesting sideline, the studio's at OLCC have a kitchen that is more complete than the 1-bedroom "B-side" unit at VVP. Something is worng with that picture!

One thing to remember with OLCC is that it is big. For me, this is an advantage but for others, it is seen as a negative. One of the reasons that it is big is because it was built around the theme of a country club with the units near the golf course. As such, the units sprawl around the resort. Other people don't like that theme and would prefer to have the units surround a recreational area such as the pools. Given OLCC's theme, a unit could be some distance from the pools but there are shuttles that do travel the resort and pick people up. I prefer to drive but in reality, I should walk. After all, I'm on vacation, so what's the rush?

OLCC has several different room styles and most of the units in the West Village (original West Village) have a room style that doesn't match the picture on OLCC's website. Some people interpret this in a negative light but I like the units. The original West Village Golf Villas are the single-story units that you can see in the pictures. In Orlando, where can you stay today that is not in a steralized, multi-floor unit as most developers are trying to cram as many units into a space as possible. When this is done, it can create problems. For example at VVP and HGVC at I-Drive, I have had to park several buildings away from the multi-floor building where my unit was located because there was insufficient parking places. This happened when I came back late, such as 10 or 11 PM but it is very irritating to carry a 5-year old through a rainy night because there is no parking place. I've never had this problem at OLCC and even in the single-story units, OLCC has always had more than enough parking places so that even if you had somebody visit you, there was no issues with parking.

Here is a URL to the renovated Golf Villas that I took in late May, 2006: http://users.adelphia.net/~gjw007/WV/WV.htm. The main thing is that no matter where you stay, enjoy your vacation.

Gary nailed it with his OLCC description. We have always enjoyed our stays at OLCC and will back at OLCC in May.
