Indy;
From your description of Vacation Village @ Parkway (VVP), it sounds like the 1-bedroom units is a "B-side" unit. VVP calls it a 1-bedroom but it really is a nice studio. It has a kitchen but no stove. There is a hotplate that you can use but I found it inconvenient. I don't remember a dishwasher in the unit and there is no washer/dryer, if these items are important to you. There may e a washer/dryer room down the hall but not in the unit itself.
Most people, myself included, would recommend the "A-side" at VVP which is about 1000 sq. ft., has a complete kitchen, washer/dryer, over-sized jacuzzi-style bathtub (although it is located in the bedroom and I prefer it in the bathroom), and VVP has a reasonably good location to Disney. If the unit is an "A-side" unit, I would give VVP more serious consideration but not the "B-side" which is the description that you gave.
As far as Orange Lake (OLCC), it is my favorite resort. I have never had a bad stay in any of the sections. I have even stayed in the studios at OLCC but I don't recommend the studios at OLCC (or anywhere else except perhaps DVC and that because people that use them at DVC, I feel, are people who would have rented motel rooms - I feel that studios don't give the home-and-away feel that you get with fully-equiped 1-bedroom and up units provide). An interesting sideline, the studio's at OLCC have a kitchen that is more complete than the 1-bedroom "B-side" unit at VVP. Something is worng with that picture!
One thing to remember with OLCC is that it is big. For me, this is an advantage but for others, it is seen as a negative. One of the reasons that it is big is because it was built around the theme of a country club with the units near the golf course. As such, the units sprawl around the resort. Other people don't like that theme and would prefer to have the units surround a recreational area such as the pools. Given OLCC's theme, a unit could be some distance from the pools but there are shuttles that do travel the resort and pick people up. I prefer to drive but in reality, I should walk. After all, I'm on vacation, so what's the rush?
OLCC has several different room styles and most of the units in the West Village (original West Village) have a room style that doesn't match the picture on OLCC's website. Some people interpret this in a negative light but I like the units. The original West Village Golf Villas are the single-story units that you can see in the pictures. In Orlando, where can you stay today that is not in a steralized, multi-floor unit as most developers are trying to cram as many units into a space as possible. When this is done, it can create problems. For example at VVP and HGVC at I-Drive, I have had to park several buildings away from the multi-floor building where my unit was located because there was insufficient parking places. This happened when I came back late, such as 10 or 11 PM but it is very irritating to carry a 5-year old through a rainy night because there is no parking place. I've never had this problem at OLCC and even in the single-story units, OLCC has always had more than enough parking places so that even if you had somebody visit you, there was no issues with parking.
Here is a URL to the renovated Golf Villas that I took in late May, 2006:
