Hello, everyone.

I've been reading through many of the threads with interest and haven't been able to find anything similar to my situation. We've started looking at buying resale at OLCC but have very specific needs. We'd like to find two consecutive spring weeks (any combination of weeks 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12) as long as they're back to back and in the same unit. How realistic is this? Would we be better off just buying each week separately?

Thanks for your help.

My uncle is an OLCC owner. He owns a week (I think week 9), and uses a South African week to book the other one (usually 10, sometimes 8). Because he's an owner, the 1-in-4 rule is waived. I don't know whether he has to move or not in the middle.

Thanks for the info. Although we aren't in any hurry to buy, I'd hate to think that we were looking for something that has a zero chance of showing up on the resale market, especially since OLCC is so large. Also, we don't want to spend a lot on each week, so that may make it even harder.

If we buy a week, say week 9, how likely is it that either week 8 or week 10 in the same unit would ever come up for resale? Likely not, right? We'd probably be better off just buying the specific weeks, and not care about the unit #.

clarify

Are you looking for 2 weeks at OLCC in the same unit or are you just looking for 2 consectutive weeks. If all you are dong is looking for 2 consecutive weeks, then the answer is that you could buy them separately. Yes, OLCC is very large and you can always find the companion week-just consult many forums. Now, if you want the week in the same unit or even in the same section, then it is a bit more problematic. I think in that case I would consult OLCC directly because they broker previously owned weeks.

Having read your post again, you want the same unit. I would stand by my answer of consulting OLCC but the problem there is the price will not be as cheap. I know many people who own multiple weeks at OLCC so it is not inconceivable that multiple weeks in the same unit may come open. It is just less likely. It also depends on what part of OLCC you want to be in. I would say your chances of doing this in River Island are less than let's say in the West Village. Look at the classifieds on Tug, Redweek, E-bay etc.

Well, it has happened!

Hi, matbec.

I know it has happened, because I spotted 2 consecutive spring weeks offered for sale by the same owner in the same unit at Orange Lake (East Village) a couple of years ago, and I scooped them up pronto!

We live in the UK and it's just not really worth travelling all the way to Orlando for our annual fix of Florida sun  and Michael the Mouse for just 1 week, also my wife has fixed holiday weeks as she works in a school here, and so we really wanted two weeks together for weeks 13 and 14. When I saw just that very combination for sale we grabbed them. It was our first t/s purchase and I know now that we paid (slightly) over the odds, but it was worth it to us to get exactly what we wanted.

Having said that, I don't recall seeing such a combination of weeks since in any of the resale listings that I keep an eye on regularly. All you can really do, I suppose, is keep your eyes peeled and maybe it'll come up.

Good luck, whatever you decide!

I had some questions about this.

Are most the OL units floating or fixed weeks?

Are all OL weeks are assigned a phase?

Assuming the answer are "many weeks are floating" and "they are alway assigned to one phase", couldn't you just buy 2 resale weeks in any one phase then reserve them in back to back weeks?

Isn't all of this is mute if you buy weeks which have converted to GoGlobal points? Because with those points, you could make a single reservation for 2 full weeks in a single unit anywhere in the resort. Right?

Glad to hear there are precedents!

I think we'll just keep our eyes peeled for the exactly the units we're looking for. We don't care which village we get into, so this should make things easier. If we don't find anything in the next few months, we can always re-evaluate.

Peter J, I don't suppose you could tell me which broker you used for your purchase?

Jimster, thanks for the advice on consulting with OLCC. We'll do that if nothing comes up before our next visit (hopefully in Mar 2009).

Bill4728, I'm not yet clear on all the rules about Go Global, but am eager to learn.

In the meantime, I've joined TUG ... yay!!!

Thanks to All for your help. :cheer:

Floating Weeks and Units

We own at the Resort on Cocoa Beach, with floating weeks and floating units.

When we go in January 2008, the resort will assign us a unit for 2 weeks straight. Since all units are basically the same, it suits us.

If you purchased 2 floating weeks at OLCC, and booked 2 consecutive weeks, I would think that OLCC could keep you in the same unit.

A call to Orange Lake will most likely answer your questions.

No problem. For what it's worth, the broker was Russell Kanner, then with Timeshare Resales USA, Orlando, and the listing was on My Resort Network. (You can still see it, under the "sold" section.) Russell has been referred to in somewhat uncomplimentary terms periodically by others here and elsewhere, but our dealings with him were just fine.

Yes, it is possible to purchase consecutive weeks in the same unit, but highly unlikely. If you see them listed together, it is because they were most likely purchased together (and in fact may be listed on a single deed, but that does not require them to be resold together). Otherwise, you would need to find two individuals willing to sell whose units happen to be the same unit in consecutive weeks. Granted, there are plenty of resales available, at good prices - but given the size of the resort, you're not terribly likely to find what you're looking for - and even less likely if you're looking for 2 specific weeks. And yes, Orange Lake weeks are fixed weeks, except perhaps the most recently sold units, which are part of Global Access Points (and are not likely to be available as a resale).

However, don't worry too much. Orange Lake assigns exchange units in their own manner - a confirmation never shows a unit number. Because of this, when they can, they often assign people to the same unit for consecutive weeks. As an owner, if your unit was an exchange unit for the week following your use (or the week before), they will often try to put you in that same unit for your second week. Be forwarned that this doesn't always work - and some people have been angry about being moved 3 weeks in a row, but I have heard more situations where people have staying in the same unit than having been moved.

The caveat to this is that the 2 units must be the same size and in the same village - 2 West Village weeks, 2 North Village, or 2 East Village, as they each have a separate resort code now.

One option is to purchase the two weeks, and request to be placed in the same unit. The second option is to purchase 1 week you want, and another to exchange in (either another OLCC week, or one elsewhere - either way you should not be caught-up by the 1 in 4 rule). With a non-OLCC week, the exchange fee might be balanced by a lower maintenance fee. But if you're not already involved with RCI and only want to visit OLCC you would need to factor the RCI membership in as an added cost as well.

Thanks, Mel. This is good to know. I wasn't sure whether or not OLCC tries to keep people in the same unit for multiple weeks. The last time we were there, we had to move the second week, as we were going into a 3BR unit (had family joining us for the second week).

In the meantime ... still looking ...
