Ok, call us crazy ... our journey to 1 million HH points via HGV Owner Updates ...

Well, in essence, they expire slowly even with use. The balance may be the same, but the value erodes. Today's WA reservation is tomorrow's cup of coffee...

Cheers.

Is that different from the USD or any other currency?

Not really. Although, with a real currency (like USD) one can also earn interest that can be commensurate (to some degree) with the rate of erosion. So there is some ameliorating benefit to holding the currency. Not so with any sort of loyalty currency. Erosion only.

OTOH, I noticed that a little mosquito screen room I bought in 202 for $179 can now be had for $149, so real currency things can come down, too. Not so with loyalty points :)

Cheers.

I understand that, but eroding is not the same as expiring. (Occupational hazard: We editors tend to be precise. :))

Agreed. And, even though I'm an engineer, I tend to be quite pedantic at times about grammar and usage. You are correct in the strict sense. I was just grousing a bit about devaluations and conflating (on purpose) concepts.

Cheers.

soooo.... interesting ongoing thread. but one thing I'm thinking about is a return to the OG topic: Road to 1MM points through OU. @JohnnyO any updates?

FWIW: I'll be at Quinn next week w my son. The lady called me all excited to "welcome me and help me get oriented", that is until she learned this was a guys only trip and my wife would not be there. Then she was short and "I'm sure you will enjoy the stay, the front desk will be glad to help you". hahaahahahahahaahaaa no points for me!

I’m pretty sure @mountainboy got an offer of 125k while negotiating for 150k before he got PNG’d.
I was offered 125K Hilton Honors pts or $300 visa gift cards. I took the $300 visa gift card because we could get the OU immediately at SeaPointe. The OU only lasted about 10-15 mins. I don’t think that salesperson was very happy to see us so he let us go instead of wasting anyone’s time.

I did learn that they are selling SeaPointe deeds which are in the HGVC system.

I wasn't aware they had a sales room at SP, thought they were all done up at Marbrisa.

Did you get an OV unit?

I was surprised that it was a HGV sales OU. It looked like only maybe two to four sales people, so very small sales office.

No updates and no excitement until August. No HGVC in July. Thanks for asking.
HGVC Maui & BI coming up. We have been busy last several months ... just not HGVC points. We have become sales meeting monsters. HGVC OU's are a piece of cake.

Wyndham Oceanside Pier Resort: $200 Restaurant Gift Cards, two mini-bottles and one large bottle of wine. 15 mins.

Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos (using HGVC points): $600 USD toward AI plus room upgrade to OV. 2.5 hours. AI mandatory so we were well lubed.

Morritt's Grand Cayman: two slots Stingray City Boat plus free drink tickets. 90 minutes.

Wyndham Reef Resort Grand Cayman Islands: $300 towards our Rental Car plus $50 KYD at Resort. We had already made friends there so we spent the day. Very interesting unique "investment" proposition which I will report on separately. 90 minutes.

All of the above were informative and easy except Grand Fiesta Americana ... what a PIA. Mexico timeshare presentations, with the exception of HGVC La Pacifica Los Cabos, ... the poor reputation is deserved. No wonder they offered us so much.

Bravo on spreading out the OU / Intro-package events! Keep working the system, spread it out so no-one firm blocks you, and in the mean time, enjoy all the things!

I guess we need an official ruling on whether the other programs count to your 1MM goals??? 🤣🤣🤣

The official goal was set at one million Hilton Honors points. The other incentives OP acquires for giving up valuable time count towards that goal only to the extent that they are Hilton Honors points.

2.5 hours at Grand Fiesta? Yikes! That sounds painful. The others sound reasonable. We have stayed there twice before mandatory AI . Nice resort. They tried to get us to attend a preso. Glad we said No.

Naw wasn’t looking for credit. We are retired so this is our new income stream 😂🤣. It’s all about the HH points. But now that ETH is at its ATH we may have to step up our game. 🚀🚀🚀

The DW wasn’t very happy. The sales weasel was totally insulting. He thought he was charming but was a real AH. But hey $600 plus the room upgrade. We looked at the ocean the whole time instead they were going to put us overlooking next doors construction site aka “Mountain View.” So we got over it.

Unbeknownst to us at the time … our friends, from our kids childhood who we had just got back together with and met us there, had purchased retail from this same clown two days before. They didn’t tell us. So the sales weasel was real cocky and let it slip that they would give us the same deal as them. We weren’t having any of it from the weasel. We just wanted out of there.

Well we decided to let our friends tell us when they were ready. They didn’t. So finally on their last day there (the day before we left) we had breakfast and I pulled them over to the side and explained timeshares, retail and resale in a very gentle way. The 5th day was the next day. I explained how to rescind and that it should be in their documents from the sale. Come to find out that the sales department hadn’t even sent them the paperwork as they promised to email it to them. The old stall tactic to get past rescission date. Well we left it at that and they were going to look into it.

To this day, we are not sure if they rescinded or kept the vacation club. They thanked me for the information and for telling them. I sent them articles and the TUG link so they may be on here somewhere. I wanted to scream, but didn’t want to totally rain on their parade. They’re adults and can make their own choices and decisions. They are wonderful people.

Valid point, the Judge👨‍⚖️ has spoken and ruled (well, so did @JohnnyO ) - target is HH.

But it’s still fun to read

I wouldnt mind this kind of income stream. What kind of personal information are you required to provide the sales weasel??

Name, rank, serial number. Basic info, name address, general income range, married, phone, .... off the top of my head. The standard stuff at most places if you've ever taken a tour.

So I can buy HH points with the proceeds? Gotcha @Eric B 😎
The difficulty with that is that the number of points you get for a given incentive would be indeterminate because of variables such as specials run by Hilton for points sales, the use of Hilton credit cards that provide additional HH points for expenditures. Your objection is denied.
