Okay, Kim is a little slow on the uptake...and the Interval International site isn't really designed for beginners, is it?

I mean I feel like I had to hack it just to get in!

I just pieced together information for about a month scouring TUG before finally realizing I don't have to deposit my weeks to search II !!

Whoooo hooo!!

First I entered a bogus reservation number as a helpful TUG member mentioned in another post, and selected my 2008 New Year's efficiency unit at the Marriott Grand Chateau which I can't even deposit yet (too early I think?) and ran a search.

I just pulled lots of Marriott 2 bedrooms with my efficiency, saw some Marriott Hawaii units (maybe that's normal) and Westin Kierland Villas has a ton of 1 bedrooms right now. I mean like...50+ units with full kitchens. I also saw lots of efficiencies, but I didn't see any 2 bedrooms.

1. Is there something I'm missing? Is this how it always is? Should I report this under sightings?

2. Are all units I can see actual units I could reserve assuming I have 1 year or less before my usage week at my home resort?

2. Can you deposit a unit more than one year before it is supposed to be used?

3. Is it strange that all my Marriott weeks read "floating" by them when I actually own a fixed week?

Sooo happy!! :D

P.S. Sorry I didn't post this under exchanging. You can move it if you think it should go there, Dave.

1. You aren't missing anything. Your New Year's week has very good trading power.

2. Yes. Anything you see you could reserve, if you had a real week to exchange.

Second 2. Some resorts have an arrangement with II allowing deposits more than a year in advance. Marriott does not. Thus, you can deposit a year in advance. However, you don't have a reserved week yet, so you couldn't deposit your week yet even if II allowed it. (See #3.)

3. You say you have a fixed week. Not exactly true. You have a floating week. That's because you have to call (up to 12 months in advance) and reserve a week for one of the three check-in dates for your week - Friday, Saturday or Sunday. You will be given a reservation number, and can then deposit your week with II or have Marriott do it for you.

Dave,

Thank you! This is great! I mean, I feel like I'm spamming the board with my excited post, but it really all just came together last night. You should have seen me screaming at my computer. Good thing my boyfriend had a nightshift or we both would have been up all night instead of just me.

Even though this message board has kept me up for hours when I should have done other things, I don't regret a single second I've spent reading the posts. I love TUG. :)

Kim,
I think you definitely have the timeshare bug! Many of us have been there......and some of us continue. Watch out - it won't be long and you will be buying the next one.............

Congratulations!

I know...it's scary to think that I'm actually looking around for a second cheap platinum (is that an oxymoron??) Marriott week just so I can extend a week or book 13 months in advance.

I'm really interested in an RCI affiliated resort too because I can't exchange into some of those.

But then I think to myself...

Um...maybe I should um...relocate to the United States and buy a house first?! :D

It amazing to me how well this simple ploy has worked for Marriott :ignore:

Dave,

I think but am not certain that with GC, NYE is an event week or a fixed week unless the owner elects not to use that week. I know that NYE weeks were more expensive when we purchased. As we are not interested in traveling to Vegas for NYE, I didn't pay very close attention to that portion of the presentation.

In case Dave doesn't see this to respond- NYE weeks guarantee that you are entitled to book week 52. However, week 52 can run from Fri.-Fri., Sat.-Sat. or Sun.-Sun., with January 1st falling within that week. So, the check-in/check-out dates aren't fixed and you must call Marriott to reserve the week.
