Has anyone else received the call from Marriott offering a preview package?

I got one the other night. Seems like a pretty good deal. The one I am considering is on Kauai ath the Waohai. The catch, for the best deal, you must bring another party and they must also attend.

But you get 2 two bedroom villas for 5 nights, 2 $100 certificates at Hertz and 2 $50 Marriott bucks for $1198.

If you wanted to go without another party it would be $898.

Almost sounds too good to be true. I am sure you would get a villa with the worst view, but who cares you are in Hawaii.

I got a call from Marriott a week ago about NCV that was about $100 a night for 3 nights or 5 nights, good anytime of the year based on availability. And I think you could get a 2nd villa for not much more if you brought another couple. Also good at Timber Lodge in Tahoe I think.

Any idea whether they'd allow you to bring more couples? Or, could non-owners do this deal as well? If so, this might be a way to put together a family reunion that I've been working on. We'd have 6 couples. If you got two 2 bedrooms for $1200 in Hawaii (is it 2 bedrooms at all resorts or only Waiohai because it is only 2 bedrooms?), that would fit 4 couples in the two units. We'd need one more unit for 2 more couples. Any ideas for 6 couples? Thanks.

I received a call a couple of nights ago but stopped the woman before she got very far. I was needing to leave for work, have not interest in buying more timeshares (I'm actually in the process of selling two non-Marriott units) and have all my vacation time booked up until the first quarter of 2010.

I get a call from Marriott maybe once every 6 to 12 months to see if I have any interest in taking some sort of preview package for a fee. This sort of surprises me since I had originally signed but then cancelled the last two contracts I've signed with them. It always sounds exciting to own another Marriott but, once I stop and think about spending that kind of money when there are other things we need, it doesn't make financial sense and we back out. Why they would want us to keep going to presentations is beyond me.

That's what I was told when I went to a golf tournament and Marriott had a booth up at the tournament.

Good point for the reunion. I am not sure how it works other than what I put in my post.

Doug

I have no intention of buying another Marriott, and if I did it surely would not be directly from them. But it seems very reasonable if I add it to my other weeks in Hawaii.

More people = more warm bodies for sales presentations. I'm surprised that they wouldn't put together a two-for-one

Call sales and ask. My experience is they are "flexible". :)

I thought they didn't offer their preview packages to owners.

We were offered them many times. IIRC, they started after we had owned at NCV for a year. After a messy one at Shadow Ridge, the calls lessened. Haven't had one in the last year.

I called the refer a friend number and was told that they changed this offer yesterday at 4 p.m. So, no go for me.

Marriott-Kauii

just got back from there. Great deal and great rooms. We also attended the presentation, low pressure. worth doing

steined,

was that presentation at the kauai beach club or at the marriott waiohai resort at poipu beach?? we are going to the poipu beach resort this winter and we were thinking of doing the 90 min tour.
thanks and glad to hear that you had a great time!!

Existing owners are your best prospects. Existing owners don't (shouldn't) have to be sold on the value of timeshare ownership. They only have to be sold on the idea of owing additional weeks. Therefore special offers to existing owner should provide a better ratio of tours:sales.

As far as being told by someone at a booth that owners aren't offered preview packages, all I can say is they had something to sell. The people in the booths are paid by the number of people they send in and, if you buy they get a bonus. They have a vested interest in making you think you need to go through them to take a tour.

Right off the Marriott Vacations website.

Eligibility:
One offer per family/household, no groups. Program is for couples or individuals with an annual income of $100,000 or more. Employees of Marriott International, Inc., its affiliated and subsidiary companies, and their immediate families and current Owners of Marriott Vacation Club International properties are ineligible for this offer.

Am I wrong to take that as I am ineligible to take advantage of the preview package?

I am guessing that this particular offer you are not eligible, because you are an owner. But I think there are offers out there for owners. I am an owner in Maui and I everytime I go there I take the tour for the points. In 2007 we went to Kaui on a presentation and we were owners.

I received a call from Marriott about a year ago for a preview package. The woman first announced herself from Marriott Vacation Club, so I thought it was something about one of our current ownerships. When she started making the pitch to take a preview package, I stopped her to tell her that I was a multi-week owner with MVCI. She said, "Oh, I'm sorry, our records don't show that. This is not for you." I was really disappointed in Marriott that night.

Post analysis

I took the tour at the Marriott Beach club on Poipu point. Great place, but thinking if I would buy i'd do so on resale market. Cash means more to me than points.
