RCI called asking feedback as they apparently have been criticized. They then offered to send me $300 travel certificate. a few minutes later got another call from them wanting to inform me about a new resort in Hilton Head. Have nt used RCI for years.

Just a guess...

I am strongly inclined to believe that the calls you received were not actually from RCI at all, despite whatever the "spoofed" caller i.d. screen may have indicated.

1. RCI is certainly accustomed to (often well deserved) criticism, including being the named defendant in lawsuits. Why on earth would RCI call you out of the blue just to unilaterally send you a $300 travel certificate? Even in actual lawsuit settlements, people on the plaintiff side have only received $10 or $20 in (ahem) "value" from RCI.
An unsolicited "$300 travel certificate" offer from RCI to a inactive RCI member (or non-member) frankly just does not make any sense at all.

2. The follow up call, probably from the (not-really-RCI) marketing entity behind the first call you received, was likely the real purpose and intent, after first identifying and softening you up as a potential "mark". The $300 travel certificate may very well turn out to be nothing more than a "credit" or "discount" to visit (and then submit to a mandatory sales presentation at) either the alleged "new HHI resort" --- or it is only applicable to something else of very limited and restricted use.

Call me a cynic, but the above is my theory and bet, admittedly put forth without any concrete evidence but with some confidence nonetheless.

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
I get calls like that occasionally. I have a feeling it was Spinakker in Hilton Head. They really misrepresent who they are calling for. I don't think the caller even directly works for the resort they are a 3rd party marketing firm that is probably in Vegas or Orlando.

Funny that you should mention this. I almost never get unsolicited timeshare related phone calls anymore, but in recent weeks I've received two such calls, each showing a "spoofed" (local) number on caller i.d., with the caller openly (...but maybe not truthfully) claiming to be "[insert first name] from Spinnaker Resorts".
We've only been to HHI once, over two decades ago now; did not find HHI to be our cup of tea and have not returned since.

No idea how / where they obtained our number, but I don't remain on the phone long enough to bother to ask. Click!
