I just received a confirmation for at week at the Marriott's Ocean Pointe. We've stayed there in the past and loved it. We're really excited. The question is the fact that our confirmation states that the unit has 2 bedrooms...one with a kingsized bed and the other with 2 single beds. As I remember from our last visit, the 2nd bedroom had a kingsized bed and a sofabed couch. Has this changed? If so, are the single beds twin or full sized?

Sounds like you're in the two bedroom sized Villa which sleeps six. Don't complain; that's the two bedroom side of a three bedroom Villa which means you've obtained an oceanfront villa!

Enjoy your views!

Yes, TTT is correct. You have the 2BR side of a 3BR lock off. All 3BR units at Ocean Pointe are ocean front. This can be great unless you don't want to be delegated to Kingfish where about half of the ocean front units are.

We stayed in the 2 BR side of the 3 BR Lock off - It was OceanFront. Now I understand why so many people want to be OceanFront - I never thought about it before we were in one of those rooms. Great trade - enjoy!

We just returned from a stay in KingFish and our guests couldn't stop raving about the views and we were only on the 3rd floor and at the back of the building! All good!

Half the ocean front views might be in Kingfish but, the majority of those views are the traditional 2 bedroom units with the king bed and mini-kitchen in the second bedroom. There are only five of the three bedroom master suite's in Kingfish while there are 28 of these units in the main complex. If you're going by numbers alone, the odds are better to be placed in the main complex.

When we toured back in 2001, we were shown the standard room. I asked if we could see an ocean front and, as luck would have it, there was one open to view. As soon as we walked through the door and saw that view there was no question which unit view we would buy.

That is a good point and also good to know. We will probably watch for these 2BR units when trying to exchange in given the higher probability of not being in Kingfish. I was not aware that there were only five 3BR units in Kingfish.

While we have never stayed in Kingfish it just doesn't seem like it would be the building for us when traveling with a group of friends or family. We would probably be willing to give it a try if it was just the wife and I or if we were just staying a night or two. Going with a group though, we would prefer to be in the main section.

My wife fought me tooth and nail about requesting to be assigned Kingfish. Now, after "forcing" her to stay there, that's the only place she wants to be. This past year when we were assigned Cobia she was very dissapointed.

You might try it once. It's really difficult to say you don't like something unless you've actually given it a shot. The group might actually like it as it would seem as if they were at their own private resort with a pool that's less cluttered, it's own bar (although it closes to darn early IMHO) and it's own fitness center. Beach access feels a lot easier to me (could be my imagination) and the foliege is lower, allowing for better views. The wife enjoys sitting in the window or on the balcony watching for dolphin feeding in the inlet when we're there.

I should probably know this as I own in Ocean pointe but it has been my understanding that the code given on an II exchange means nothing when you check in at Ocean Pointe. The desk assigns your unit and owners get what they own but exchangers get whatever the desk feels like giving them whether they are Marriott owners or not.

Is this the case or am I not understanding this correctly?

A lot depends on how old the kids are that are with you and what they like to do. Next July I managed to get 4 units at the same time and my whole family is going down there. There will be 8 grandkids in total ranging from 1 to 13. We are still discussing what bldg we want to request but I'm leaning towards Kingfish because of the zero entry pool which is great for the three youngest girls who don't swim.

The boys who are older would probably like the main complex better except that the two oldest and their dad like to fish and are looking forward to trying their luck off the pier.

I'm actually more inclined to make sure we are in the same bldg rather than any one specific bldg so I really haven't decided what to request yet. It's a nice problem to have though. I haven't commented on GregT's thread about liking my Marriott's but being able to get everybody in one spot, all with OF units, is one reason I love my Marriotts

When we exchanged back in, we were given the unit type described on the exchange. There are important differences between the two 2 bedroom units that affect sleeping arrangements. Because of that, I believe they stick with the unit description for placement.

Keep in mind that owners staying on their time are placed in the type of unit and unit view purchased. There's typically no upgrade to ocean front. I've spoken with more than a couple of people who were in ocean front units that were either renters or exchangers.

A couple of years ago we used a non-Marriott week to exchange back into Ocean Pointe when I saw the unit configuration of the master suite of a 3 bedroom lock-off. We were placed in the unit description on the confirmation.
