Hanging out in the hot tub at Anderson Ocean Club and one of the hot tubbers mentioned that Ocean 22 had elevator problems -- not enough elevators for the size of the building, not that they are inop.

I checked recent reviews on TUG2 and TripAdvisor and didn't see any mention of elevators being a problem.

Any comments?

We stayed at Ocean 22 in Jul. The elevator situation was okay until one of them was out of order. Then it was bad.

True statement when we were last there in 2015. We would catch elevators going up in order to go down. If I remember correctly (someone will correct if I am wrong), there is only 4 elevators for the building.

Sounds like the standard condition at HCNY.

Cheers.

There is one central bank of elevators and depending on how busy it is, if can be a real pain. I have seen a line out to almost the pool. Very poor design to put so few elevators in one spot. Enclave is much better.

I've never stayed there, but I have been in the building a couple of times. I think part of the problem with the elevators is that you need to take one from ground level to reach the check in area. Adding to that, the common areas seemed rather tight.

Thanks all!

I'm an original owner at Ocean 22. The elevator issue appeared right at the start in 2015, but mostly in peak season (summertime). I always stay in November for a couple of weeks and have never encountered any significant delays. In the past, the complaints were mostly around check-in and check-out times where there is a higher demand.

This, as others have mentioned, is exacerbated by having to check-in and check-out on the 2nd floor, unless you want to use the stairs! Obviously, this is not an option with luggage, strollers, etc.! This design feature was mandated to minimize flooding damage during hurricanes. When I go it is mostly couples, other than during US Thanksgiving week. In peak season there are a lot more families, so that each unit has 3 to 4 people getting on the elevator, rather than just two.

They have made a number of changes to help mitigate these issues, and they seem to have helped. The biggest one is the electronic pre-selection of your destination floor to call the elevator. The computer system then tells you which elevator will be yours. This seems to have significantly improved the efficient use of the elevators. They appear to have learned their lesson from Ocean 22 when they built Ocean Enclave.

They recently went to this system at Elara. While the elevators were not particularly slow there, this has made them that much faster. I can only imagine how this helps with an elevator-limited location.

Cheers.

We were at Ocean Enclave for a few nights a couple of weeks ago and got a kick out of the elevators. We weren't there long enough to break the habit of reaching for buttons inside the elevator.

Also found interesting the major appliances that can be controlled with smart phones.

We last stayed at 22 back in 2019 and the elevators weren’t that big of an issue. As long as you were able to avoid check in and out times, it wasn’t too bad. Obviously they aren’t as good as most other resorts but we never waited that long.

on our check out day, we waited a long time trying to go down from the 15th floor. finally we realized we needed to take an up elevator that had room, so we could then ride down.

no real issues during our stay though, just on the busy check in/out days.
