Anyone have experience with what to do after purchasing with occidental? We purchased in 2011. Used it once for the complimentary (?) vacation but haven't used it since. We discovered to late that the two reasons for purchasing (1) we needed to turn our other resort into a points system instead of a week to get the most benefit. Purchasing this would automatically turn our other time share into points (lol. We are seriously ignorant) (2) when we did use this one the rates would be significantly less. I guess we were shown off season prices. Also we travel with three people and that doesn't work very well with a studio. Whole thing has been a huge mistake that we paid for in full. Have I mentioned our ignorance? Anyway now I am fed up with the maintenance fees for something we will never use. I didn't pay them for 2017 and am getting significant FC. I don't believe I have anything to rent I don't even know where to begin to find out since it isn't a week that we own. I don't know what we own even after reading the contract. Any experience or suggestions?

did you try contacting them to see if you could cancel? I dont believe there is any actual ownership/deed here, just a membership?

I have. I can sign a paper relinquishing whatever it is I have. Somehow just saying yes please keep my 18k isn't sitting well with me at the moment. Maybe after I have more FC accrued I'll be of a different mindset . Thank you though. I know we are ignorant but up until I read your post I thought I owned something. That's why I've been so confused the few times I've thought about it lol. Now I see that that's exactly what this is. A membership. Wow. That's a lot of money to be a memeber so they can ha e more money! hard life's lessons!!

well unfortunately either option you choose is not going to result in you getting your 18k back :(

its at least nice to know they offer an easy solution if you do decide you dont want to own anymore.

I can sign a paper relinquishing whatever it is I have. ......I thought I owned something. ....... Now I see that that's exactly what this is. A membership.

Simply not paying another penny will ultimately result in cancellation of the membership without any further effort on your part, but formally relinquishing the membership would obviously be both quicker and cleaner. As TUG Brian has already correctly observed, you're not going to recover any money either way and there is surely no resale market value or interest in this club membership either.

With no criticism implied or intended, I am curious why you had previously believed that you owned something merely by joining a vacation club?

I do not know. I guess we had never heard of vacation clubs and didn't question that. Don't remember any of that. We already owned and had for several years and thought the way it was explained that the points was the only difference I guess. I think we must not have cared. Just had two objectives in mind but neither one was realized. Points and inexpensive vacations. ‍♀️ Thanks for your help. I will consider whether I want quality care or drawn out.

not anything for you to worry about for sure...the sales weasels are masters at creating value for a valueless product.
