Now that AA is gone, what airline do you prefer?

I also added United as my second frequent flyer club. I hope Marriott will eventually re-establish a relationship with AA but until then, I will be earning United miles.

Funny/ironic in ways, the two former best rewards programs in their respective industries part ways. Maybe it is a sign that both companies are headed downwards ?

I too hope they one day reconcile and reestablish their reciprocate relationship. Customers and both customers will benefit IMO.

I'm not sure how to describe it -- we have three young children and so Jonell and I fly separately if the kids aren't with us (even though we drive together in the car to the airport!).

Oh well.....

Greg

You are not "nuts", It actually makes good sense esp with 3 small children that could be parentless if anything happened.

Plus it very easy to earn alot of miles on US air even without flying them. They have so many promotions. Right now they have a 50% bonus on hotel point transfers to us air miles. So I'm going to get a catagory 6-7 night travel package with 120,000 air miles (cost 300k marriott points) and they will give me an extra 60,000 miles, for a total of 180,000 us air miles.

Now that is a nice perk!

Seems like AA will now permit topping up by buying miles ... 40,000 miles for $1000 and you get a bonus of 12,000 more miles. This may be old news to some, but I just got the email.

I wonder if using one's Marriott Reward Visa card to purchase the miles from AA, will this qualify for the 2 MRP's-per-$1 spent on Air purchases. If yes, this add another 2000 MRP's (not much, but something).

Greg, my wife and I do the same if the kids are not with us.

We normally travel separately (if possible), regardless if the kids are with us or not.

I'm back working on this. Been over to flyertalk asking for help on the AA forum which triggered a response that AA may soon cancel the ability to count hotel program transfers towards Lifetime status. This has me scrambling to try to get to Lifetime Gold before the end of the year.

But I still need to pick an airline to start dumping new MR points into to build an account. Once we pay maintenance fees at the beginning of next year the MR points will build up again. I've re-read the comments in this thread several times. Star Alliance looks good as it seems to give more opportunity to redeem miles for an award trip. Am I right in thinking that an award could be fulfilled using multiple Star Alliance carriers for the different legs of the trip? I like that about One World. We've flown twice in the nice green leather seats of Aer Lingus when it was partnered with AA. Used Iberia last year to Italy.

Now, how to choose which Star Alliance brand for where I place my miles? I like service and nice aircraft--who doesn't? That flight with the emergency landing I mentioned in post #19 was a tired NWA DC9. After being delayed for over an hour while it went for repairs we were in the taxi lane and I asked my husband if he had ever been on a plane that ran so rough. Then when we were airborne I overheard one of the flight attendants say to the other "this is worse than before the repairs" (well something to that effect). Fast forward to being told to listen to flight attendants for instructions. Jack and I were praying together as we were coming down fast into London Ont. with the flashing lights of emergency vehicles lining the runway. Yes, we were praying about our young children.

So, as I said, I like nice aircraft. I've flown Continental only a couple times. Can't ever remember flying United or U.S. Air. I've done a couple quick searches to see who flies and what kind of schedules there are to a sampling of cities we may fly to. Still not much of a direction which way to go. We'll probably be flying on long trips (Europe, Aruba or western states) with awards from the points we transfer. Right now we're into driving if it's within a couple days travel (i.e., HHI, New Hampshire).

Can't take advantage of the U.S. Airways miles bonus right now as I drained our accounts earlier this year to get one last travel package with AA miles attached to it. My spg points are going towards that Lifetime Gold with AA. Sorry I missed out on the 35% bonus with spg. Paying attention to other things when that was going on.

So--can I ask for more input for the Star Alliance group?

Thanks,
Suzzanne

This rumor pops up regularly. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're close to 1 million or 2 million, then I might push to get over the threshold for lifetime Gold or Platinum.

I'm very close. If everything goes well with the Citi Visa for 75,000 miles I can add that to a transfer of spg points and it's done :)
