I bought a 12,000 point package for $.55/point on EBay and so far it has given me a 2 bedroom in high season every where I have looked.

Over the 10 years or so I have been buying nice but dirt cheap weeks for next to nothing. When I tire with them for one reason or another I sell them for next to nothing or give them away. I figure if I don't pay much for the Week in the first place; use it for 3 or 4 years; then sell it for next to nothing or give it away; I'm in pretty good shape. Depending on my current likes and dislikes, I am still buying and still selling.

Mostly dogs available. Don't see many prime red week, within driving distance to a major metropolitan area.
If you can buy for $1.00 including closing and transfer costs, be ready to hold on or call a PCC to get rid of.

Why so cynical? I am very surprised at your negative posts because you obviously like timeshare, generally, or why would you own, and why would you be here? :) Some gems are out there, and you never know when a gem is going to pop up that no one else noticed. None of the Hawaii resorts, sans Oahu, are near a major metropolitan area, and I consider anything on Hawaii as worthy of purchasing.

I bought a wonderful May week on Cape Cod on the beach for 6 cents (EBay) and sold it to the couple who rented it this year. They absolutely loved it.

A great example of a "gem" :whoopie:

I agree that it is time to buy. For those of us that already own too many, it is a great time to fine tune your portfolio. For example, upgrade size, season, or add another week to your favorite destination. With the rising cost of fuel and flights, why not stay an extra week?

If you a member of II, look at flexchange. Many available for HI, all islands including Gold Crowns which will trade for the doggoiest of dogs. But try to find Cape Cod, Boston, New York, Rhode Island, Alexandria, San Francisco, San Diego, Cal coast. If one cames up it lasts a few seconds, WHY? HI all you want. Why buy?

Maintenence Fees

Pretty much the only reason I see to not buy up cheap eBay timeshares is the accumulation of maintenance fees. I currently pay ~$850/year in maintenance fees for my 1 week of Marriott Fairway Villas. I've never actually stayed there, instead we use it for trade. I also make very good use of II's Getaways. In fact I never trade into New Orleans, where we go most every year, because I can usually get a Getaway for <$300/week.

So, be sure you know what your maintenance fees for any prospective cheap time share will be before you buy, AND how much you can get in rent for same. Otherwise, if you just use it for trade, you'll be out upwards of 1K/year, where you could otherwise pay for inexpensive Getaways instead. (I'm assuming RCI has something similar to Getaways? I only belong to II.)

My "if I knew then what I knew now" thing about timeshares, is that I would have bought the cheapest thing possible, with the lowest maintence fee possible, resale, rather than buy during the sales pitch. Although, we didn't pay too much compared to many timeshares I've heard about ~$11,000 for a gold week, 2 BR.

Cheap

If you look at any of the Hawaii resorts, save and except Marriott and Westin
a lot of them are going for dirt cheap because of the cost to get to them.
And even the Marriott's and Westin's comparitively speaking are pretty cheap compared to what they were 2 to 3 years ago.

I don't like the fancy resorts like Marriott and Hilton because they cost too much and they are creepy and pretentious in my book.

I own a Marriott week in Palm Desert. It's our only timeshare week, so I didn't know I was pretentious and creepy. :annoyed:

We own many low priced and low MF timeshares and we love trading into those creepy and pretentious timeshares without paying the high MF and high acquisition costs.:whoopie:

So buy anther week there!

No it is not you silly, it is the timeshare. If you only own one you can even join the Huck Finn Club. It is illegal to keep free range chickens in Jersey City and my condo association would turn me in.

I thought the same thing when I read your post. What's up with this post? Are you mad about something? I saw a lot of great resorts up for bid for much less than last year. What do you mean mostly dogs? There are always the cheapo resorts on Ebay but if you search for particular clubs you will find the better timeshare resorts for sale.

I was offered the same week for $9000 last week during a Marriott Fairways tour. Sign of the times!!!:wall:

I use the Marriott system to trade into Marriotts and most other timeshare systems. I love Marriott and like the assurances that I can get another Marriott in trade. I can't wait until Marriott quits the II system and starts its own internal system like my DVC has.

I knew it!! NO chickens in Jersey City.;) Maybe you should move to South Jersey where chickens still continue to thrive; or better yet try Maryland for chickens.:hi: Living in one of those expensive condos on the water you could raise ducks!!:whoopie: or maybe you could feed ducks if you couldn't raise them:cheer: A Jersey City Chicken Farmer. Now that would be a story worthy of the Star Ledger.

"Creepy and pretentious?" No, just snobbish and snooty... as they should be.

I'm a little late to the party on this discussion, but as I'm new here I thought I'd throw in two bits on this just for the hell of it. And I know that they're mostly tongue in cheek comments, but I like my story and haven't told it for a while so bear with me....

First, I've come to the realization that if you have piles of money, you don't really need timeshares. You can just afford to buy whatever, whenever, you want. So with that understanding, I don't look around at other guests and see anyone pretentious anymore, regardless of the timeshare I'm staying at. Most people there work, or have worked for a living, to earn the ability to be there. And in many if not most cases, including my own, without timeshares I would never be able to afford to be there.

Secondly, I won a golf tournament that got me a three night stay at the Fairmont Princess in Scottsdale. I was getting on the shuttle to head over to the stadium course and was alone. Before the driver could get out and open the door, set down the stool, etc. etc. etc. I told him I was alone and asked if I could just jump in the front seat. On the way to the course, I asked him if he ever got tired of being around the snooty, pretentious, rich snobs that he must deal with on a daily basis. He could have said anything, and I expected him a much different answer. His answer,"Sir, everyone has a right to be treated like a King from time to time and today, it's your turn."

It took a huge chip off my shoulder that I've never carried since. Now, if you'll excuse me, my limo driver just pulled up and my dog is late for his psychotherapy session.

GeNioS- lovely story. I'll bet that driver has a great soul.

I'll add that every parent needs their teenager to hear their parents being asked "will you adopt me?" by another teenager. Gotta love timeshare.

Ebay Timeshare Auctions

There will continue to be great buys on Ebay for timeshares, in large part due to the PCC's.

We recently picked up (two )every other year weeks at the Resort on Cocoa Beach.

Price with closing costs was under 1K.
