None of my requests have been fulfilled with II. Should I add Kauai?

We are flying into OGG in February. Our flight arrives 12:50 p.m. I have points reservations at WKORN and then at Ko'Olina. I have back up requests for both and also added Maui Ocean Club to the request.

It's the first week I'd really like to get a match as it will cut the cost of the trip. If I add Kauai then we will need an inter island flight. Is it worth it? Which property is your favorite?

February is hard anywhere in Hawaii, but adding Kauai will make a match easier. Especially if you are willing to take Marriott's Kauai Beach Club. Waiohai is often preferred over KBC though.

I would stick with Maui but add additional resorts to your request. What dates do you need?

I'd add all the Westin's and the MVC resorts as a minimum for Maui and for Kauai I'd add Waiohai, the Lagoons and the Westin as well. I personally wouldn't add KBC but many really like it and it's the most likely to match for that week. Also, I'd take your second request and add the options for the first week as well. You can always modify the second request if the "wrong one" matches. You should also be checking online EARLY am and throughout the day for availability. Also make sure you have the smallest unit size that will work for your situation. Good luck.

For those newer to exchanging the issue here is that Quilter had very specific requests (it sounds like one week, one resort per request). Ideally such a request would have been entered 13 months ahead (this one likely was) for more for as many options as possible though sometimes other factors limit your choices.

While Maui is beautiful, it is my least favorite island as a visitor. (In fact, O'ahu and Maui were both "hard pass," when deciding where to move. I enjoy visiting O'ahu. But I'd never live there. I don't much enjoy even visiting Maui.)

I'd add any island to your reservation request. Kauai is great. So is Big Island. If Big Island's size is a deal breaker, just pretend half the island is closed for renovations. And then decide "Volcano, fruit farms, great Japanese food" or "Manta snorkeling, coffee farms, tourist trap restaurants." (While there are a few good places on the west side, there are a LOT of tourist traps. The entirety of Ali'i Drive, for instance.)

One of my friends who lives there describes it as "Orange County, except with way more traffic jams."
LOL. We may know the same people. I know someone in Napili who says basically the same thing.
We'll go back to Maui next Feb for the first time in 5 yrs. We'll go to Grand Wailea & maybe never leave Wailea.
Took West Maui off our list Feb 1, 2020. The traffic issues were bad then. The attitudes were bad then. Both have almost certainly degraded since.
also know a Maui-born guy here in CA, who says it is "almost like HI, but without all the bleepin tourists"

They could be the same person.

The Waikoloa area of Big Island can get like that, sometimes. But there's no reason for anyone to go there. And Ironman/Christmas week are both good enough reasons to stay home. One of the best things about living in the South Kona district is that except for one road, I barely notice tourism. I can completely escape it whenever I want.
