We're staying a week at the Marriott Desert Springs Villas II. Great one bedroom...BUT, when I asked for the day we would have a tidy, this is the response:

"Cleanings are provided for guests who are occupying a room for 8 or more consecutive nights.

If you are looking to have a full service cleaning we can coordinate with our Housekeeping team to provide one for an additional fee.
2 Bedroom Villa - $170
Master - $105
Lock-Off - $75

If you are interested in a Tidy service, the prices are:
2-bedroom Villa - $75
Master - $47
Lock-off - $34

We do however require a 24 hour advance notice to schedule any services."

I then noted that this is the only MVC I've stayed in that doesn't have a tidy, noting that I had one this year at another MVC in Palm Desert. They responded to that as follows:

"Please note that this is a corporate initiative and affects all resorts across the company."

Have you all been experiencing this recently at all the MVC resorts? We're off to our home resort in a few weeks where I've always had a tidy, and am I supposed to expect this there? Why isn't this included as part of our maintenance fees? I don't recall getting any notice on this...did you. We should fight this and get back to our Owners' Associations!

We have never received a tidy clean at any Palm Desert MVC. The only place we ever got one was in Hawaii.

They also don't do them at Newport Coast, Tahoe or Park City.

Friggin Amazing. I don't know what you pay in MF but if we don't get one at the Westin Kaanapali during our upcoming visit next summer when we pay close to $4000/week, I will be very upset. Because I will question what we are paying for at those nosebleed rates.

When I was in NYC at the HGVC W57 the housekeepers came to our room several times a week. We pay $1700 in MF which I consider reasonable. And that's in expensive NYC!

They still do a midweek tidy at WKORV. It consists of (only): taking out the trash, replacing the towels, and making up the beds (no new linens).

Update: We did get fresh linens in today's tidy; we did not last week. Hmmmm.

I know I've gotten them in the Desert before...Shadow Ridge. Always get them at our home resort in Kauai where we're headed shortly. May be it's the club group that includes Newport, Tahoe, Part City and now the Desert.

We have owned at Shadowridge for more than 15 years. Have never received a tidy unless staying 2 consecutive weeks. People renting from Marriott do receive housekeeping.

They always make up lame stuff like this. The MVCs in Europe still have tidy services. Its up to the individual HOAs to decide what gets done when and when owners want costs driven down, this is the sort of thing that gets implemented, same as stricter pool towel policies.

The services you get can vary according to how you book. Is this your home resort reservation?

We also have owned at Shadow Ridge for almost 15 years, and stayed there at least 20 times. Never a tidy service. Maybe they do them for lengthier cash stays but we have never received them (always less than a week on these.) Over the past 15 years were have stayed at least 10 times at the other resorts I mentijed and never receid a tidy.

I think tidys are more routine in Hawaii. I heard that they do them because of all the sand, to make the full cleans not as intensive.

It depends upon the property and the brand. As noted, the properties in Europe receive daily maid service. The Westin in Hawaii had a mid-week tidy. There was a service, don't recall if it was daily or not, in St Kitts. What is included in the MFs is the cost to operate the property; if folks want their MF to go up, then they can request cleaning more often, but that affects all owners; that is why the properties are giving those staying the opportunity to pay for services, if so desired. Many folks don't want or expect a cleaning during a week.

It's been some time at Shadow Ridge - you can see my post surprised that there was no mid week tidy in 2017 here: https://tugbbs.com/forums/threads/m...r-declining-tidy-service.266411/#post-2081068

At that time all the hotel chains and many of the mid-tier chains (eg Worldmark) had a mid-week tidy. Worldmark has stopped, but I think that's a reasonable expectation for an upper-upscale resort. For all the sound and fury about MVW brand standards that being optional always surprises me.

Yea, I'm in Ocean Plaza / HGVC SouthBeach and they do a 3rd or 4th day tidy on a 6 day stay, and more on longer stays. I am hoping I can put out the DND and have them skip us tomorrow - it's disruptive when I'm working remote. I think they also had a tidy at Ocean Enclave and maybe Flamingo. I generally find it unnecessary TBH.

All if not most HGVC's have mid-week cleanings and it sounds like Vistana does too. Why do people believe MVC and HGVC are equivalent in quality if these services are not regularly rendered at MVCs?

Moreover, the equivalent HGVC is hundreds if not a thousand less in MF for a similar unit so the argument that housekeeping will warp the cost does not seem to hold water.

What is bloating the costs at MVC (and Vistana)? I am a WKORV and WKV owner and I cannot believe how much costs have inflated vs. HGVC. Almost $4000/week for a 2 bdrm in Hawaii is crazy and will lead to defaults. If we weren't grandfathered into Abound we would be selling now. Depending on our visit review in 2025 we may sell out of Hawaii and keep our low cost traders.

At the French property they offer daily housekeeping! Including loading and unloading the dishwasher!

None of the US properties I have stayed at have ever offered me a mid week tidy.

That said I could care less. I almost always decline daily housekeeping even at hotels where its offered and am perfectly fine not getting it at timeshare stays.

When we first started staying Barony in Hilton Head (2009) we had mid-week tidy, however as far as I can remember, these were stopped by 2012-2013ish. It hasn't really impacted our enjoyment of our trips. Even at Marriott hotels, many are every other day tidy. We recently stayed 3 nights at a Courtyard in Florida and that was the policy.

As long as we've owned at Barony Beach and SurfWatch we haven't had mid-week tidy service unless we're willing to pay for it. I always understood that it was only the Marriott Hawaii and non-US resorts that had them more frequently than weekly, didn't realize until this thread that some of the FL beach resorts had them (Crystal Shores didn't when we were there in 2009.)

We prefer it when they don't come into our unit so when we do cash stays in the timeshare units, we decline the daily service. Same if we're in a hotel for only 2 or 3 days but longer stays we ask for a mid-stay tidy only - single hotel rooms always feel more claustrophobic if they're untidy-ed.

Every hotel room I have ever stayed in has the world's smallest trash can! So yes I do agree when staying in a regular hotel room for more than a night or 2 than at the very least I need the trash taken out!

One of the first things I do in a hotel room is look for the nearest place to empty the trash; usually it's near or in the little room with the ice machine. (I won't just leave it outside the door in the hallway - that's gross.) If I don't find it, then I'll call the front desk and tell them that yes, I do want daily tidy after all. :)

In Spain, I leave the do not disturb on the door, and then housekeeping leaves a card under the door with a note to call should I desire service. If I leave the DND out for back to back days, then housekeeping phones the room asking if I need service. They find it odd I do not desire daily service.

For several reasons, housekeeping one of them, I like international timeshares (and own 3 RTUs). They are similar to international hotels that offer better service. It appears that MVC US is following the lead of Marriott. Thank goodness HGVC has not gone down that path.
