We had to deposit pts to interval. We haven’t used interval in years due to poor quality trades early on.

What are the nicest (marriott similar quality) resorts in interval that you have been to.

Open to Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, grand cayman ect. No Jamaica no Aruba

Thanks for any advice

I’m inferring that you’re not interested in the Marriott Saint Kitts or Frenchman‘s Cove in St. Thomas? Too bad, they’re the best! They would be your best options. Marriott owned and you feel like you’re at a Marriott. We found that even the nicest resorts that we exchanged into from Interval were not quite as nice as any Marriott…..That doesn’t mean they’re terrible but the standards are different.

Over 20 years ago we stayed at the Hyatt Hacienda del Mar in Dorado Beach, it was nice enough, but it wasn’t well maintained like a Marriott. We were a bit shocked that cabinets were falling off. Hinges and drawers were broken. It just felt like kids had been there for spring break and they hadn’t fixed anything.

We time shared in Saint Maarten for 20 years and we exchanged into several resorts. Our favorite was Oyster Bay Beach resort on the east side of the island. It was the best of all the resorts we went to, larger and more amenities. We always rented a car and Saint Martin is such a small island. You can easily drive around it. You just have to watch out for the uncovered gutters on the side of the road in certain places. Stay away from Dawn Beach Club, too many roaches and crummy WiFi. La Vista is a nice and well maintained, small resort but it’s not a resort with lots of amenities. It’s family owned, and if anything is not working, they will to fix it. Simpson Bay Resort was not a favorite place of ours, several of the older buildings only had AC in the bedroom. We haven’t been there since the early 2000s, maybe they’ve upgraded, you would have to ask. They have a newer resort called the Villas at Simpson Bay, we never stayed there, but they’re much newer, so they probably have AC in the entire unit. Sapphire beach club was a miserable place to stay, the refrigerator wasn’t even working right and they were not helpful. It was also not well maintained regarding furnishings.

We stayed at the Grand Caymanian resort in Grand Cayman about 20 years ago. It was a nice resort, we would definitely go back there. It’s just so long ago, I can’t comment on how they are now. They Cayman Islands are interesting because you drive on the left side of the road similar to St. Thomas, st Kitts and other various Caribbean islands. It also tends to be more expensive than other islands, but we had a really nice time there.

When we vacationed at these resorts, we noticed they give you one beach towel per person. So yes, we started bringing two beach towels with us because ours are nicer than what they give you!

We never went to the Dominican Republic because their resorts pretty much are all inclusive, which require a separate fee for the all-inclusive. And a lot of times the food is very mediocre at all inclusive resorts. if you are looking at any resorts that are all inclusive, I would contact the resort and ask what the fee is going to be because it’s not listed upfront in Interval.

Something else we considered when we’re planning our travel is how easy is it to get to those islands. The fewer flights, the more expensive…..

Good luck with your search, we never had a problem trading into any of these resorts if we put our request out six months in advance.

We stayed at the Hyatt Vacation Club last January and it was very well maintained. We found none of the issues you mentioned.

I was at the resort last month. No issues or complaints either.

Thanks, we would love to go to Saint Kitts or St. Thomas however because it is a points deposit they told us it cannot be used back at a Marriott and we have to use them at a non-Marriott. We will look at your other suggestions thank you.

What unit size and TDI combination did you deposit for. It should have given you a week to use as a deposit. That may influence what you can get.
Morritts Grand on Grand Cayman is a good choice and you may be able to get a 2bed with a 1 bed week.
Hyatt Puerto Rico is also an excellent choice.

We have them 4000 pts which I think she said was a 2 bedroom in high season. I’ll check once the deposits complete. They said it takes a few days

4000 points is indeed a 2BR in high season. Or a 3BR or 4BR in lower seasons.

Then you are going to need to be quite careful to get 4k points worth of value. You can get that value with 2-beds at DVC, Hyatt, Four seasons and other Elite resorts. It will be best to put in a request if you want 2-beds for most of those as some of the inventory never makes it to visible inventory. I've read that the Westgate in Gatlinburg is also worthwhile, just avoid their sales teams!!!

If you run out of time to get something of equivalent value, you can use it up on the resorts on Grand Cayman, St Lucia or Antigua, but for the last 2 ensure that you put in a request for the resort codes that are not mandatory AI.

I can tell you that when we were in a similar situation in the beginning years of COVID, the Divi Little Bay Beach Resort LB1 on St Maarten (NOT LB2, which is all inclusive) made the cut and we successfully traded into it. But we ended up not going so I can't tell you more other than that Divi is a small chain of Caribbean resorts of generally reasonable quality.

Hi. I was there about 8 years ago. It was nice enough. I wouldn't say Marriott level but not bad. We had the option then of not buying into the food/drink plan. Don't know if that is still the case.

We never stayed there but visited it once and had lunch there. Lunch and drinks were great… It definitely looked like a well maintained resort from the exterior, and has good reviews.

They renovated after hurricane Maria.

ljmiii reminded me that there is also Dawn Beach club and Coral beach club on St Maarten, both of which are elite level resorts are well worth considering.

Just to far and the flights are so expensive
Have you priced out flights to some of the other islands? Our experience is that Aruba tends to be the cheapest option from the east coast.

We feel the same way about Marriott properties. They seem to be well-maintained compared to others. We do own some MVC points, for that reason.
But I am wondering how long it's been since you were at Dawn Beach. I own Building A ground floor and never have seen a roach or anything outside of the occasional stray ant. The Marriott Hotel is definitely a plus, too.
In fact, we're at the airport now for our flight back home after 2 wonderful weeks there. We like the secluded location-definitely not for everyone. But it's close to the French side and all that comes with that, so overall a decent place to go.
To each his own, they say.

Do you happen to have any pictures of the villa or the resort? Is shore fishing allowed (my nephew is obsessed with fishing.)

Wyndham Limetree is pretty nice and right around corner from Frenchman’s cove. They have the best restaurants of any timeshare I have ever stayed it. Westin St. John people seem to love but I have not stayed there. Grand Caymanian is step below marriotts, but make up for it with square footage, big clean rooms. It is on the sound but in 7 mile beach corridor. You would have to drive or shuttle to 7 mile beach, but can go to stingray city right from resorts dock. I would stay away from east end properties in grand Caymanian. The are always covered in seaweed. The divi little bay in st. Marten is nice enough, but not greatest part on island. I felt like I was always driving to go where we wanted to go. French side or Simpson bay.

I was about to write that that the Lanai restaurant at the Limetree is one of the best on St Thomas...and when I looked it up I saw that the restaurant has been closed and been replaced with the a substantially downmarket one called Longboard.

The resort seemed nice enough though.

Sadly even though the WSJ isn't MVC, OP can't trade into it through II using points now that MVW acquired ILG and the WSJ can be booked using Abound points.

Hyatt Hacinda Delmar is very nice property. Our only downsides there were a very large abandoned resort next door was eyesore. It also seemed like there were not a lot of great restaurants close to it. It would be better for people that like to stay and eat on property.

I don't think you can fish there; at least I've never seen anyone fishing from the shore there. The beach is kind of an afterthought with some sand, but a number of rocks and seaweed (sargassum currently). Remember, this is the Atlantic side so you get less of that tranquil blue-green water that's on the north and western sides of the island. That's why we get a car and go around to or favorite spots for beach time. There is a beautiful pool though.
As for the photos, I've got a few because I'll be posting to rent it out for 2027. Let me see if I can attach a few here... I'm at 37,000 feet right now, heading back to Charlotte.
