How hard is it to trade into Marriott NCV? Didn't get my trade with a one bedrm this year( not for here) and now have to try and exchange next year. Is it even worth it to try for this one, and what would be my best time of year? Don't want to go through all the last minute waiting again, only to not get it...esp. since we'll need airfare.

Just a quick lesson in property names. There is NCV, which most people refer to as Newport Coast Villas, not Canyon, which is in Newport Beach California. There's also marriott canyon villas which is in Arizona. I'll assume you mean Newport Coast, so I'll discuss it.

I have found it to be moderately difficult to trade into, however there are times when it is rather easy. May and November both have had standing inventory in the past, and November can be had with a 1-bedroom anything today. May is not considered the best time of the year because of the fog that generally blankets the area in the morning, however when I was there in May the weather was incredible. I have not been there in November so I can't speak to that, but it is a rather easy trade then.

So like any resort, you can get a trade but unless you have a strong trader you might want to try off time like May or November. If you have kids and can only travel in the summer, like you said it may be a challenge.

Are you asking about Marriott Canyon Villas in Phoenix or Marriott Newport Coast Villas in Newport Beach? I assume Newport Beach based on the "NCV" in your post.

I'm no expert on either one but would think if you are trying for a summer week at NCV it would be very difficult. Right now there are November and December weeks available there for this year.

Others with real knowledge of NCV will chime in to help you here, I'm sure.

NCV was one of our more difficult exchanges. We deposited a 2 bedroom March Grand Chateau week and requested a very specific March exchange into Newport Coast Villa's. When I say specific I mean right down to one week and one check in day. The exchange was on a request first basis and took nearly 6 months to match but, the exchange did come through.

Newport Coast is a tougher exchange, from what I've heard, for summer month weeks. I do not believe that it is typical for it to be that difficult of an exchange for months other than June, July or August.

Any idea how hard NCV is to get in April? I have a pending request for mid-April 2012 with 1br Grande Vista Platinum week. Not very flexible with dates so any hope this exchange will come thru?

We swapped into NCV, getting an April, 2010 week, using a one bedroom Sheraton Desert Oasis unit. It was an "instant exchange", i.e. all pending requests including requests using Marriott weeks had already been filled.

If things hadn't changed (Marriott's new points program being a major change), I would say your odds would have been excellent. At this point, no one can say for certain, but I think you will still be fine.

Thank you all for your input. Sorry about the name mix up. Went to Canyon Villas early last November and had a great time.Met someone at MMC who owns at Newport Coast. She had very good things to say. Sounds like I may need to exchange my full 2 bedrm to get a chance, unless I go in November.

I just got NCV for April 2012 (easter week) using my 1 bedroom shadow ridge unit. Only had an ongoing exchange for a few weeks so I was pretty pleased.

Here's a link to our Webshots photo album from our 2009 stay at NCV. Just click the picture to go directly to the album or, click either link in my signature below.

Or click the link below to go to our Smugmug photo album, which has a better slideshow presentation IMO.

We were able to trade in to Newport using a 1 bdrm Ocean Pointe deposit. We were matched for June 26-July 3, 2010. In summer of 2009 I had placed a request for Kauai. After a little while I decided to add Newport to the request, and it came through within a few weeks. I was very surprised at how quickly I got a match. I'd say it was late summer or early fall when it came through, because I remember booking airfare in the fall. Of course this was all before DC, so I don't know if we'd have that kind of success again.

I had an ongoing request for Four Seasons Aviara near San Diego for any time in Feb. 2012 Got a call yesterday from II saying that they still have not found availability at the Four Seasons but offered us NCV for the President's week.
We declined given that Feb. 2012 is still a long way away and we are hoping that something will come up at the Four Seasons...

Reedps...Thanks for the pix...which area is the checker board?

Thanks

I got Christmas week last year with my 1bd MGV gold week with an deposit first, 1 year in advance. I also got the same Christmas week for this year with the sam e1bd MGV gold week, it was available for instant confirmation back in January.

We've traded into Newport Coast Villas twice. Once for mid-June week and once for Thanksgiving week. The first time I used my 1 bedroom Timberlodge summer week and the 2nd time I used my 2 bedroom Shadow Ridge week. I got both trades 12 months out. Now, this was before the DC and all. But I didn't think it was impossible. My guess, is the July/August weeks might be harder and you might have to wait longer for those trades but I'm wondering with DC if you might have to wait even longer.

Good luck! It is a lovely resort.

P.S. I know both of my weeks are kinda of low season but that was far from the truth. June gloom only effected our mornings and during November it was in the upper 70s to mid 80s all week. So, we lucked out with perfect weather both times.
