Good Afternoon,
We will be at Newport middle of October. Our son and his family are flying in from San Francisco to join us for a long weekend. Wondering is there a better unit or buildings to request? We are long time owners and Chairmans club members. Should I call a couple of weeks ahead? Have not received any information from the resort. Anyone in particular to ask to speak with and when?
Any activities or restaurants not to be missed? We will have our delightful 4 year old granddaughter with us. And will have a car as we are flying from chicago to John Wayne airport arriving around noon.
Thanks as really looking forward to this getaway!

The most desired units are the ones with views of the ocean. Many of the units do not have that view.

There really isn't much of an ocean view from majority of the buildings. We're arriving in a couple weeks and I just put in a request for Building 3800 3900 or 4000.

Have not received any information from the resort.
We are arriving Oct 1 and just got our welcome email on Sep 8. If you don't hear, and especially that you are Chairman, I would call a few weeks before your check-in.

The resort map doesn't help much. NCV is built on a hill, and you can't appreciate that from the resort map or understand what view you'd get from each building.

Everyone has their preferences, of course. We like it quiet (my wife is a very light sleeper) and like an ocean view. We do not like to be near a pool, for example - too noisy. So:
  • we ask for a high floor, as high as they will give us, to maximize the view. It's difficult to get a top floor assignment unless you're an NCV owner.
  • we don't ask for 3800 or 3900. 3800 is too close to the busy center of the resort for us. And I think there's a sports court in front of 3900.
  • 4000-4400 plus the northern side of 4500 (before the building turns to face further south, toward a canyon) are our preferred buildings. It's not easy to get 4000-4200 because those buildings have an unobstructed ocean view, so NCV owners are higher on the pecking order here. We are Marriott owners, but lowly exchangers at NCV. In 4300-4400, you will be looking at the ocean over the roof of the building in front of you. That's been OK if we get a high floor.
  • we've never stayed in 4800 or 4900, so I can't comment about those. Possibly you would still have a nice ocean view if you were assigned a room on a high floor, but now you're looking over 2 rows of rooftops. (4800 and 4900 are closer to Newport Coast Drive, which is a main street, and remember that any noise at all is an issue for my sweetheart's sleep.)
If you search, I think you'll find several past threads on TUG in the Marriott forum offering advice on what to request.

------------------------------

Reading some of the later posts, I should have said that my wife and I travel as TANKs (two adults, no kids). The kiddie play area mentioned below in this thread isn't for us, but I do agree that it's very nice.

If you are in bldgs 2100 and 2200 you will be close to the main pool (which includes a shallow pool for the 3 y.o.), the movie theater and children's activity center plus it is close to the outdoor tot play area. 2100 will have a better view.

With a four year old I would suggest considering the 1100 or 1200 buildings, as a couple of years ago they completely redid the pool area there….now it’s a wonderful water park for little ones with big zero entry pool, a big splash spray area with little waterslides, and a big bucket that drops water…very fun For the young ones! There also is a huge jacuzzi, a bar(open in the summer….not sure about October…maybe you could call and ask), and there are comfy couches with fire pits tables, grills, party lights stung around, etc…very nice for the adults, too, especially when the little ones head to bed.
I look forward to staying at that end of NCV with my grandchildren…but that will be in a few years, as our first grandchild is due on Dec. 7! But I do know that many years ago her father and brothers would have LOVED that pool area.
It is also much easier to walk to Crystal cove from that end of the property, as it’s at the bottom of the property…Crystal cove would be downhill, and then you could take the shuttle back if you didn’t want to walk back Up.
Here are a few pictures I found online.
I should add that you won’t get a sweeping ocean view with these, no, but maybe a SLIGHT view in the upper floors, through the trees of the golf course, but it really is an outstanding area for little ones.

No matter what villas you choose to request, I’d request a high floor.
Someone mentioned building 2100…we were in 2130 this last August, which was a corner unit with a very good view for that building. It would be great with little ones, too, as it’s right by the little play area and there are grills and tables right there. Also, you can go up some steps to the basketball arena, then up to the sand pit area for little ones and the putting green. Then you go further up to fire pits, more grills, and a walk to the main building and main pools, ping pong, the kids club, bar and grill.

And here are a couple of picture to describe that area. In the aerial view, the unit I’m talking about, 2130, can kind of be seen in the left corner. The play area in the picture is at back of the 2100 building…the pictures doesn’t show the grills and tables there unfortunately. And I didn’t take any pictures.

Ask for top floor…that will probably help with a view for the most part if view is what is most important to you.
Also, know that 4000, 4100, 4200, and 4500 will all give great views, but they are more secluded.

Was there a special number or email that you used to make a request?

I exchange into Newport Coast using Interval. So, I look at the Confirmation they send me and look for the Marriott tel #. At about 3 weeks before check in, Marriott typically sends you an email asking for special requests (like feather-free, crib, etc.). Somewhere on the request you can type in, in a text field, something like "I prefer building 5000 and 5100."

The best view we ever had was 3500 top floor, but that building is right on top of Newport Coast Drive, and the road noise prevented us from enjoying the balcony. I wouldn't recommend because of the road noise.
We have been in 3900 multiple times, almost always on first floor. The sport court is way down the hill from the units so there is no issue there. You follow the the trail past the sport court, fire pit, volleyball and mini golf to go to the main building.

In June we were in 5114, first floor, but that unit is right on the walking path and by the barbecue area; we did not use the balcony since there was no privacy. Also, the trees have grown very tall, so any view there may have been from first floor when initially built is now blocked.
The plus is begin very close to the upper pool and pickleball area. Also, there is a light to enter/exit the resort for the 4800 - 5100 buildings, so it's very easy to get in and out. You would probably drive to get to the main pool, bingo, etc.

Beware, that there are a couple of two-story buildings (2700, 2800 ? - not certain of numbers), which they will try to give as "top floor", but they don't have good views (sliver of ocean through trees), and they don't have elevators.

A small resort - only 51 buildings and almost 700 villas. Generally, you'll get a view of something nice other than the ocean. We always have a great time both on the property and off site.

But, if you want a beach, warm water, and an ocean view, this is not the place. Think about OceanWatch in Myrtle Beach or one of the beach locations in Hilton Head in late June thru mid-August.

I always ask for a unit in the 4000-4500 bldgs ( not first floor) All of the units will have good to great views.

48, 49xx & 50xx bldgs are OK to good and next to the upper pool and tennis/paddle ball courts.

The 1xxx bldgs generally don't have much of a view

I am considering requesting building 3700 (Sales Center) for an upcoming stay. Where do people park for this building? The check-in roundabout is often full, so I'm wondering where next closest parking is.

We will also request other buildings, but we have never been in 3700. Is there still a view from the units, or have the trees grown to block it?

We were in 3700 earlier this year. Here is a photo from the Marriott - View from the Balcony thread. I believe we were on the fourth floor. Parking can be a bit of a challenge there as there are only a small number of spaces in front of the building and half of them say no parking during daytime hours as they are intended for registration parking. The next closes parking is in front of 3300 and 3400. Though those spaces were often filled. You could park by 3800 but it would mean a bit of a walk up the hill to get back to your car. I was always able to find a spot in one of these areas, though we also have a handicap placard so that added some other options.

Thank you for the information and photos @dioxide45

Since we are not owners at NCV, we get first floor 90% of the time, but I hope during our upcoming week, the occupancy will be lower, so we'll have a chance at a higher floor.

We aren't owners but I placed a request for high floor and certain buildings (I think it was 4000 through 4700 and 3800 and 3900). I know these are popular buildings to be requested. We got 3700. It was rather convenient to the main lobby and pool and you are guaranteed to be above the second floor as I believe the first and second (perhaps also third) are part of sales.
