I didn't think Matzatlan was close to the USA border. These crimes must be regular criminal activity and not drug related.

Hard to turn back for me. I love vacationing in Mexico but haven't been to Matzatlan or Aculpoco. I hear good things about these places but they are listed as two of the most dangerous cities in Mexico. On other Mexico Forums there seems to be a little concern about these areas.

Bad things happen everywhere

The point about the medical bills being due each day is they way they operate in Mexico. We always have 150K in travel medical insurance which they accept even though it may take them a few weeks to get paid.
As to Mazatlan being dangerous, we have been there many times, and never had any trouble. Do bad things happen, of course as they do in Orlando, Seattle, LA, etc. If you are aware of your surroundings, and don't attempt to do anything wild and crazy, you are just as safe as anywhere else in the world.

I feel the same way as you Greg.

This month two ladies from Washington were killed in Matzatlan. Roseanne Olsen fell at her condo and was found two days after and then another gal was ran over by a taxi. These and the other concerns are posted on other forums. The almost 400 people that were murdered last year in Matzatlan were most likely drug cartell guys.
