:wall: OK we did the dumb thing of buying without knowing what we were doing. I have beaten myself up to the point of getting sick at work & having to take 1/2 of a sick day to recover. Now I'm ready to either make lemonade or try to get out if this contract altogether. Yes we were lied to by the salesman many times over, & of course I know now that if it isn't in writing then to bad for me.

In June 19, 2012 my Wife & I purchased a unit through Hilton Head Island Development Company. Coral Sands is where our unit is & our season is Silver (not sure what that means). Our Vacation week is #9 (meaning March?) our usage is every third year & according to our contract: The Initial Year of occupancy shall be 2012. Questions are: How can I occupy a unit in March of 2012 when I didn't even buy it until June of 2012 & is this enough of an issue to get out of the contract?

Hello Gdog, welcome to TUG (go Buckeyes). Please stop beating yourself up over your purchase. You must like something about the resort to have bought in the first place.

You need to figure out exactly what you own and how to use it.

Did you pay maintenance fees for the 2012 use year? If so you may be entitled to some use, maybe not.

Is your week fixed or floating?

Your "silver season" is just an arbitrary ranking of the relative value of the week you own, silver has value but gold and platinum have more.

I can't help you on the technicality of trying to get out of your purchase but usually what you sign is what you are stuck with.

I'm glad you found this site even though it's a year too late for your purchase. You will get a lot of helpful info here.

Once again, don't make yourself sick. You bought into a great looking place and I'm sure you'll enjoy vacationing there.

Thanks for your encouraging words csxjohn & yes GoBucks!

Yes we did buy this unit for several reasons. My wife, grandsons, & I vacationed in Hilton Head last year & fell in love with the area. With me being in poor health I thought this would be a nice thing to pass on to my daughter & grandsons so they would have fond memories of our vacation times together. Plus my only nephew & his family live in Columbia S/C and we can stop by & visit them on the way back to the Buckeye State.
I can't tell in the contract if I have a fixed or floating week.:shrug:
I did pay my maintenance fees for the 2012 use but did not get any use for the year. We also joined RCI in 2012 & did get points, although I'm still trying to figure all that out too.

March is not the month that we would like to Vacation in Hilton Head, due to the grandsons still being in school. Our sales rep told us that we could switch dates from March to June using RCI, but that hasn't worked out due to not knowing that I needed to book 12 to 13 months out.

I'm so glad I found this site. :whoopie::whoopie:

Once again Thanks for your help.

Once again Thanks for your help.

You probably have a floating week in RCI points. If you received points, that was your 2012 usage. With triennial usage you get one third of your points each year. If you want to use your unit during your season, you would need to reserve 13-12 months in advance. Unfortunately a triennial silver season is not going to get you very many points. Even with saving points and borrowing points you are not going to have enough points for summer except for last minute points. Generally points resorts are not discounted to the 6500-7000 point range but I have seen the Coral Resorts do this sometimes. Spring break this year is the last week in March and the first week in April for schools where I live. This is a nice time to visit Hilton Head and even though we are on a school schedule, we travel to HHI every other year at this time.

Unfortunately you were fast talked, told half truths and probably a bunch of lies to overpay for something that has no value and probably may be of very little use to you due to the season and the amount of points you get. I bought an every other year platinum season at Island Links also managed by Reba. I paid a dollar for it but they require a transfer fee of $1500 now when selling (of which they pocket $500- the rest goes to future MF's), so my week would probably cost me between $500-$1500 to give it away to an individual for free.

Owner at Coral Sands

Hi, I bought a triannual at Coral Sands and am still very confused. I am hoping to learn more also. I don't seem to have enough points to book a three bedroom in gold season which is what I bought. I'll take any tips.

Coral Resorts

Hi,

It looks like some of you own time shares in this system, so I guess I wanted to know if you can book into your home resort without paying an exchange fee? How about the home group? I have pretty much gave up getting much use from my purchase, though I love some of there resorts.

Call Reba and find out if you book your home resort during your season if you do it through them or RCI. If it is through RCI you shouldn't have to pay any exchange fee and you would need to reserve 13-12 months in advance. I believe it would be that amount of time before your use year and then you just wouldn't be awarded any points for the next 3 years.

To reserve a different size unit or a different season for one week at your resort it cost $40 and can be done 12-11 months prior. It can also be for your home season during one of your non use years if you have enough points.

Booking your home group for one week would be 11-10 months prior and the exchange fee is not reduced.

In order to have enough points to stay in your season you need to save one year's points, use the current points and borrow from the next year's usage or just reserve prior to any points becoming available your use year (13 to 12 months prior to when you want to stay.)

Coral Sands

Thank you for your information. It gives me some place to start.. I would love to be able to use it since I really like the resorts:)

Hi, we are newbies to triennial purchase with Coral Resorts also. Knew what week we had (January), but wanted to get into points and wanted to trade. Since we love HH, we were told we had the developer week to come down anytime we wanted! Sounded perfect to us! HOWEVER, we have not been able to get an owner's week assignment yet-also tried the rental route thru their rental agency--no luck there either! Just out another $250. I feel like an idiot! Any advice would really be appreciated!!!!
