Every August we go to New York City and stay at HGVC W 57th St. (It's part of the 12 week low season so our points go farther.)

We have 11 days booked from August 17 to 28.

We are facing a wrenching decision. Even if the resort is open and the city has begun to open does it make sense to go?

My husband doesn't have stamina to do much walking so outdoor things like walking the High Line are not very viable. Theater and dining out and some museums and taking our service dog to the dog park are the big things we do. We also love the interactions with other guests in the owners lounge.

As such, we are wondering if it makes any sense to try to take our August trip since most of our activities are unlikely to be possible. Any thoughts?

We are really hoping that our December trip to see The Music Man with Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster will happen.

My thoughts are, number one I don't think I'd go to NYC during the summer. You say you go every year, so the weather must not bother you.

We have been going to NYC in early October for the past few years. I just pulled the plug on that trip. Dh does not want to do any traveling this year. I'm not sure if it had been left up to me alone if I would have decided to go. I might have waited a bit longer before cancelling.

So, if it was us, no we wouldn't go this August.

I doubt Theaters or museums will be open and probably only limited dining or take out. I also think the owners lounge could be closed or very few allowed to use it. Being walking is limited I wouldn’t go.

Thanks everyone. I think it’s unlikely we will go or to the Chicago/Wisconsin lead in to New York.

However I’m holding out to the last minute on canceling.

I did book a 4 day and a 5 day stay in Napa for August if we don’t do New York and Chicago. Napa is only an hour drive.

If you cannot do most of what you enjoy doing in NYC I do not see a reason to go. Other locations where it is easier to respect social distancing may be more suitable if you still want to travel in August.
