Forget the good old eagle on the reverse side of quarters! In 2020, you could have a fruit bat on it instead. As part of the U.S. Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters program, six special designs, including the fruit bat, will be found on the reverse side (known as the tail) of quarters.

We're replacing the American Bald Eagle with a fruit bat?

Can we at least use its other name, "Megabat"? :ponder:

I like the fruit bat one better than the other designs they showed.

I'm glad our lesser known creatures are getting their day in the sun. For example, the mascot for the University of California Santa Cruz is not Screaming Eagles or Lions of Wolfpack...but the banana slug.

Our grandkids loved the Stellaluna book. When our great granddaughter was born, we bought one for her. The new quarter looks just like her.

This is just like the state quarters, national parks quarters, etc. No big deal

Yep, my daughter is a proud Slug. Don't think they have any sports there -- which is when the mascot would usually come into play.

I, too, would be a proud Banana Slug. And I can envision intercollegiate athletic opponents trembling in fear as the Banana Slugs marched their way.

Fruit bat? If it wasn't part of a planned numismatic series, there is so much material here for (humorous?) commentary...but I digress. ;) :ponder:

Awwww, cute! I've seen the fruit bats on American Samoa. I watched them for quite a long while ... fascinating. Nice to be reminded of that particular travel!! :)

Fits NorCal perfectly in my book unless a joint or a homeless person was able to be a Mascot
