Hello,

I am helping my senior citizen relative sell his timeshare. I joined TUG this morning because it seems like a legitimate forum with helpful information and honest feedback. It is paid in full and he has kept up with his maintenance fees. He can't travel anymore. I am waiting for information about the maintenance fees to post the sale ad.

Can people DM me in this forum? I don't want to give out my phone number, but I did create a new email to sell his timeshare. Is it okay to give out this email?
I'm treading very carefully because of all the scams out there and the need to protect my uncle.
Is there anything else I should know if I am helping him sell his timeshare?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Welcome to TUG, @Sell_wk24_VV_FL

I just want you to realize that the timeshare in question has no resale value. You will be giving it away.

Step 1. Contact the HOA/Management company for Vacation Village at Weston to ask if they will take it back. You may have to pay a year's maintenance fee (or similar amount), but it will be the easiest method to dispose of it.

Do not fall for any upfront fee scheme in which you must pay $X,XXX to an outfit who promises to get your relative out. ALL OF THOSE COMPANIES will take the upfront fee, and do nothing more. At best, they will tell you to stop paying - which you could have done yourself, without paying the upfront fee.

Please reply, as you need to increase your post count to activate the DM system.

Here is a list of resale ads on Redweek.com . Notice how many are for $1. (If the $1 hasn't sold, the higher priced ones certainly won't.) Based upon these listings, I believe the maintenance fee is approx $1,187/year.

Thank you. This year's week has passed, so they cannot rent it out. Also, they hope to get out of it before paying next year's maintenance fee. This will be helpful if they are still stuck with their timeshare next year. Appreciate your help. V
