Hello. I'm new to TUG and new to the need to sell a couple of timeshares. I have some questions.
1. If materials are copyrighted, how does one get a picture of the resort where the unit is located to post it in the Marketplace?
2. Same question regarding the resort description. I see many that have the same description so they must be copied from the resort's own info. Is that legit?
3. Is it useful to include the web address for the resort itself so that prospective buyers can look up the web page of the resort on their own?
4. I get really confused about this: If the units are enrolled in RCI points, do we list flex, or fixed weeks; include the deeded week; or just highlight the points earned by the unit?

Sorry to be so naive and ill-informed. Your comments will be appreciated.

You may have to use some of your own photos- use a photo site- like Photobucket to avoid copyright stuff.

Lots use the resort's own text for description- or just post a link.

If it's in Points, just say so. (Unit gets XX,XXX points every (or every other) (month name). if you want to post the week that the points (deed) are linked to, that would be OK too.

Basically, just follow the format of other ads you see there, you'll want to keep it fresh by clicking on your ad and editing it a little.

Good Luck, we wish you well.

If it is a single ad, I can't see a resort going after you for copyright infringement. If you make a business (even a fairly small one) out of renting or selling multiple units at the same resort or same resort company, you should get out their and take your own pictures or have a friend do so for you. I also think limited cut and paste of amenity descriptions are probably ok but you should be able to come up with some general descriptions of the resort in your own words.

If you own a unit in RCI points, you should mention this and the points for the week. You should also mention the underlying week or float week season in case the new owner were interested in dis-enrolling the unit from RCI points.

1. Do a Google image search for the resort. Then under "more tools" choose "usage rights" and then choose "labeled for reuse." Or search Creative Commons for copyleft images of the resort. Or take your own photos. Use the most recent photos you can find. Make sure they're images of the right resort.

2. Just write your own blurb. You can use what they have as inspiration or as a guide but write out the reasons you bought this ownership or read through reviews and see what others seem to like about the place. Don't forget to include all the amenities.

3. Yes. There's really not a negative to including the URL.

4. I don't know anything about points, except that I don't have any.

At the risk of fire and brimstone, I've used photos from resort websites. Never got any letters from lawyers. I think it's pretty commonly done but it's an ethical question, I suppose.

I've used pics from resort's web pages, pics from eBay auctions and from Craig's List in ads for TSs I've "sold."

I also include links to the resort to let peeps do research and I sometimes add phone numbers I have so they can call to get info.

When giving a description why would you not say it's enrolled in RCI points if that's the case?

I have one up now that I had to add that it's not enrolled because peeps keep asking me about it. Give all the info you can.

Good Luck

thank you all

I really appreciate the helpful and quick responses. Thanks to you all - and best wishes for the most effective and enjoyable use of your timeshares.
