We took over a couple of timeshares at Carlsbad Seapointe and the folks a Hilton Resorts/Grand Pacific are wanting us to convert our units to points in the Hilton system. We got the timeshares free and are currently at the Seapointe for the first time. They want us to pay them about $13,000 for 8400 points on even years and 6200 on odd years. (our timeshares are one odd/fixed and one even/floating).

Does this sound like something we should consider?

Thanks,

Neil

To expand on Jason's reply... No.

HGVC is a good system, but don't even consider paying that much for those points.
Especially when you could buy a HGVC TS with similar points resale for half or less...
and keep your Seapointe TS's (if you want), like having your cake & eating it, too.

Check out HGVC resale prices on www.judikoz.com, www.sellingtimeshares.net
or closed eBay auctions.

Don't convert. That is paying retail. You can buy 8400 HGVC points for a lot cheaper that. Just keep what you got for free and use it when you can. If you need more points, buy resale.

Noticed you said "they want you". Just remember 99% of the "update" meetings have some angle for you the owner, to spend more money. Take the prize offering and run for the exit!

For $13,000. they should be selling you an additional timeshare or taking yours as a trade in towards a new purchase.

Do you want to buy into Hilton? They have extra fees for everything. If you just wanted Seapointe, stay with that. You can rent additional weeks in GPR for far less than buying into Hilton.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond to my post. We declined the offer and will use our timeshares or trade them in the future and if we would like we can purchase points on the resale market.

I agree with Presley, learn how to use what you have, explore GPX for exchanges and bonus weeks. I booked 4 bonus weeks this year and did it when they offered half price sales. I got Maui, two CA beach weeks, and I have XMas week booked in Scottsdale in a 2 br for $375. Best $5 I spent buying my Seapointe on eBay!
