currently own 2 Hilton t/s. looking at purchasing Marriott for the better selection of resorts. Being on the west coast, our main (90%) destination is Hawaii. looking at the the Kauai Beach Club, 1 bdr lockoff unit for the $10-12k range, which seems very reasonable. If we owned this, how easy is it to split the lockoff unit (can both units be traded?), and get a second consecutive week traded into either Ko Olina or Maui Beach Club? The bottom line is we want to stay for consecutive weeks at a time, and don't need a large unit, as there is only the 2 of us.

Also of the the 3 Hawaiian properties I mention above, are they all of equal trading value? Again, I am only interested in trading between the resorts in Hawaii.

I also may consider a 2 bdrm l/o if the price is not too much more than a 1 bdrm l/o.

Any other pointers or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think there is such a thing as a 1BR lock off. I will let others answer your other questions more specifically.

I dont believe the 1bedroom at Kauai Beach or Maui can be locked off and traded for two weeks. I think only the 2bedroom units at those two resorts can be split. The 2 bedroom unit at Kauai Waiohi also cannot be split for two weeks. So only the 2bedroom at Kauai Beach Club, 2bedrom at Ko Olina, and the 2 bedroom at Maui can be split and turned into two weeks.

You may be able to get a two bedroom for closer to $18-$20K at those resorts on the resale market.

You actually could split the 1BD lock-off, occupy the side with the murphy bed and exhange the side with the king bed. I don't think Interval International accepts the wall bed as a deposit. They are refurbishing the units from sept-6 through Dec 18th.

There is a two bath one bedroom lock-off in Kauai at the Kauai Beach Club Marriott. That's the only one I know about.

icydog/Marilyn,

Do you know for sure that is correct? I didn't think II allowed studio units that only had a couch to sleep on? I thought there had to a bed in a lock off portion.

Also I wouldn't believe it just because you saw one on ebay. A lot of times I see wrong information in those ebay ads. I didn't see one listed in the Tug Classified mention that is can be locked off, however you do see them mention the lock off for the two bedroom units.

Pacman - you shouldn't have any trouble trading from one Hawaii resort to another as long as your request were reasonable.

Marylyn and Nancy are correct. KBC has one-bedroom lockoffs. II won't accept the studio portion as a deposit. Thus, Nancy's strategy (depositing the 1BR portion with II and requesting an exchange back into KBC) is the way to try for two consecutive weeks.

2008 MFs for the 1BR lockoff are $1,665.97 (including $196.44 special assessment).

I'm not sure that's so. The one bdrm has a full kitchen on one side. The other side, the living room has only a sleeper couch therefore it is not depositable. I think the one bdrm side does deposit as a one bdrm on II.

Dave M-- those MFs are outrageous! Kauai Beach was a hotel conversion wasn't it? I wonder why that resort has higher MFs than the other HI Marriotts.

Unless I read something wrong, Dave was referring to Nancy's comment about "splitting" the 1BR unit and depositing the larger side - which would be a studio.
