My husband and I were on a weekend get away this summer and were suckered into a Wyndham time share at plantation resort in Myrtle Beach. Although I do think this was the right choice for our family I wish I had known more about resale’s etc. so here are our questions after finding this forum.

We currently own 84,000 but know we want more. What should we look for if buying resale points? Do they have to be from resort? How is the best way to get more information on a transfer of deeds etc.

What is the difference in levels from Wyndham and how to you get to other levels? When the time share was sold to us they made it sound like we could go anywhere within Wyndham but then we looked into going to Pigion Forge and it says that we aren’t eligible. ‍♀️

Also any insight on these abbreviations I see everywhere... there are too many to remember and I can’t seem to find a place on here where they are explained.

Overall I don’t regret our choice to become timeshare owners but I would like to educate myself more and make better purchases in the future along with making our time share work for us!

Welcome to Wyndham Destinations. If you do not have access to the on-line site, here is the link:

https://www.myclubwyndham.com/mycw/home.page

Click on the "Whats Happening" link on the top of the page then click on "Directories". The current directory is there and has a section on VIP Levels that answers your question plus more.

You can go anywhere within Wyndham. I don't know if your points are deeded or Club Wyndham Access, but within 10 months (so anytime before 8/8/2019) you should be able to use your points at essentially any Wyndham resort, including the Smokies.

Resale is definitely the most economical way to add points. We own only resale points and have been to many different resorts.

You get to VIP levels by purchasing from Wyndham at retail prices. If you don't own points purchased from Wyndham, there are no "other levels."

You get more points by purchasing on TUG, ebay, RedWeek.com, or any of the other sites that list timeshares for sale. Spend some time on TUG before you jump in any deeper.

That’s correct. I read Pigeon Forge and my brain just defaulted to the Smokies properties in Sevierville. OP, there is a very small handful of resorts we don’t have access to as non-VIP, and the Margaritaville resorts are the main culprit. There are other Wyndham resorts in the nearby vicinity that anyone can book, though.

Just curious is the Puerto Rico Margaritaville different? I have just resell but stayed there this summer on a reservation made about 10 months before my stay.

CWA owns a few units at Rio Mar. The directory states that you will not get all of the Margaritaville amenities.
I don’t know if that’s true that they separate the amenities somehow from Margaritaville guest from guest staying in CWA units

I am pretty sure I got all the amenities for those curious. I don’t have CWA either, just UDI Points.

Side bar ...
Does anyone elese find Jimmy Buffet annoying?
It is almost as bad as the Sammy Hagar Cabo stuff as well

It do like Caribbean just not the frat boy stuff

As noted above, the margaritaville properties have their own set of constraints

I do understand that developer contacts have restricted access to margaritaville access at VIP levels starting at silver (6 months out only value and high). Access gets much better at vip gold and platinum

For what it’s worth it’s a pretty nice resort if you have never been.
Plan on going next year. I’ve said it before that everything doesn’t work as it appears in the directory or on the website.
I agree that you probably received all the amenities and benefits unless they hand out wristbands or something to distinguish guest

All the Margaritaville guests got green RFID bands and hotel guests had a different color.

As long as you had green band you got all Margaritaville treatment.

I went here and the new one in Clearwater this summer, both nice... but doubt I would do Clearwater again, and would definately to Rio Grande Mar again. Clearwater pool / hot tub so packed almost not enjoyable.

Here are some pics of the Margaritaville location.

Thanks for the feedback on PR
It does sound relaxing

During the off season Wyndham can make units available for the general Wyndham pool. Because of the extended closure they may have had fewer Margaritaville and VIP reservations so they decided to open it up to everyone. I wouldn't expect that to always be the case. Are you seeing any availability at either resort in 2019?

Had Puerto Rico fully recovered in the areas you visited?
We have a reservation this winter but have seen some reports lately about the island still has areas that haven’t recovered yet.
Our reservation is for a 1bdr Presidential Oceanview so I hope we have a similar view to your beautiful pic

The resort looked fine... Except some palm trees were still rough looking. The rainforest was primarily closed you could drive to first waterfall and that was it most of the area seemed fine. The last day there we lost power for 2 minutes during a storm, but entire resort has back up generator that kicked in and powered everything up. There is damage in places, but not that bad. You will need a car if you plan on doing stuff, but you will want insurance. Driving there is a bit harry.

We actually booked before the hurricanes hit them. At the time I thought I just got lucky under the new booking system as all of a sudden there was all kinds of availabilty one night so I booked a week. I booked a prime summer week so it wasn’t an off season booking.

Rescind immediately! Get your money back. Take time to read and learn, before making any decisions. Through TUG Marketplace, ebay and redweek.com you can watch for resales, prices or just rent points. Would not buy a timeshare without fully understanding the contract obligation and having the exit options stated in writing! My parents have a t/s and now they can’t travel due to age: the annual fees continue. Will cost them about $2K in fees and closing costs to give it away for $1!

We purchased back in August. Isn't there a time limit on rescinding?

We are planning to be in Rio Mar next Spring. I hope to be standing on the ceiling like that as well. :)
