very exciting - with timeshare stays counting, it will be pretty easy to get to Gold or Platinum status. My 2 weeks at Waiohai later this month will put me over!

Announcing Elite Rollover Nights!

Every night you stay above the 10 nights needed to maintain your current Silver level in 2009 is yours to keep and count toward your 2010 Elite status.

It's the only rollover night enhancement we know of - anywhere.

Plus, we'll give you a head start with double nights. Stay at any participating Marriott® hotel between May 11 and June 26, 2009, and earn double nights, starting with your first stay. Plus, we've already preregistered you for this great promotion.

So get twice the nights with this double deal. And since every night this year counts, it's easier to maintain your Silver status - and achieve the next Elite level in 2010.

I dont believe timeshare stays count unless actually paying for the unit.

My trade into Grande Ocean this year gave me 7 more nights!

several threads on this topic ... and mine have counted in the past.

Marriott changed the policy on this. As of June 30, 2008 when a Marriott owner stays at their home resort or exchanges into another Marriott, the 7 nights credit will count towards elite membership!!

Wow, thats great. I knew my previous stays didnt count but thats great news. I'll pick up 14 nights this year just from timeshare stays.

Holly, I was just wondering the same thing! We have a getaway at Desert Spring Villas end of May and it would be great if these nights could count.

Hope someone can answer our question!

I would think if you have the Marriott reservation # for your getaway week and link it to your MR account, you could possibly get credit. Be sure to charge something (even if only a snack from the Marketplace) to your room so that it generates a statement.

I originally though this was great until I read my offer.

We appreciate you as a Gold Elite member - and we know your nights are valuable to you. That's why we're breaking new ground to help you retain your Elite status.

So if we earn double nights on our next TS stay it will give us like 52 nights this year. Enough to renew gold, but only two nights will roll over to next year. So it really won't help in reaching plat for us. It looks like this will help a lot of silver TS owners reach gold because all nights over 10 roll over. It will be more difficult for us to go from gold to plat because only nights over 50 roll over.

It also has the chance to water down the benefits of the elite status. The more people with the status the fewer upgrades and perks they will offer per elite member.

Last week I contacted my VA and she contacted someone at Marriott Rewards regarding this issue. I was assured that the timeshare stays will count towards the elite status and will be doubled within the terms of the promotion. The doubling effect only takes place with your second stay during the promotion. So in order to capitalize on 3 weeks of timeshare stays during the promotion I am scheduling a 1 night stay in my home city in mid May. In fact I just completed the reservation a few minutes ago. Found my local Marriott has a weekend deal that includes breakfast for two and a $50 dinner credit at a rate of $119. If the plan works as I understand it I could go from Silver elite to Platinum this year.

My e-mail and the first one quoted in this thread indicate that the double nights start with the FIRST stay.

I see that now as I am reading my emails. This is a slightly different promotion than the one I had received a couple of weeks ago which stated doubling on the second stay and also had different effective dates. I like this more recent one even better!!

I got the same email. My problem is that I do not have the 10 nights yet. Somehow I am not sure why I did not get my 10 nights or so from the Visa credit card. Do this nights post to the account when you pay the fee and then disappear when the year changes?
I think my membership renews in August.

You will get those 10 nights on your anniversary date. IN your case they should post sometime in August or September.

Dioxide,

Thx for the reply. So I will have this 10 extra nights on my account only for half of the year? It doesn't make sense to me. At the end of the year, all the nights in the account clear. I might have to call them on that.

Same thing happens to me with my 15 nights for the "black" card. My account renews in August also.

I'm never going to make gold level, so guess it really doesn't matter.

You can reach gold elite by having 50 nights during any 52 week period throughout the year. If you get your 15 nights from your Visa card in August and earn 35 more nights before the following August you will reach gold.

I need 10 more nights before mid July to reach gold elite, and I have a 7 night timeshare stay coming in early July. In mid July I have 7 nights that drop off.

Terry,

I think I understand, but I am confused, since my account goes to zero nights at the begining of the year. There is something wrong with the system somewhere. Unless I change my billing cycle on the credit card and I get the 15 nights at the beginning of the year. Shouldn't the 15 nights stay in my account the whole year? in my case august to august??

We do have zero night right now, but somehow were are still silver. Both my husband and I have the premier card.

So, the Elite level are based on the calendar year. So if in 2009 you pass make it Gold, you will be gold during the whole 2010? is that right?

Marriott has an unwritten policy of providing elite status to those getting the required nights in a 52 week period. Your nights will always reset when viewing online, but Marriott is keeping track of the rolling 52 week period. Since you only need the nights in a calendar year to get to elite status they give you the nights on your anniversary. I am not aware of any way to change the anniversary date of your card except to cancel and reapply. Though it shouldn't matter in the big picture.

You are still silver because you reached silver last year, so that status will remain through the end of 2009. If you reach gold in 2009 then your gold status will remain through the end of 2010.

I didn't get an email and can't find anything about the promo for double credit in my account. Can you post a link? We might stay a couple of nights in June.

Thanks,

Sheila
