I was listening to Pandora and this song played a couple of times. I never heard it before and wondered who it was. I was surprised it was an old song from 1975. Anyway, it became stuck between my ears long enough that I looked it up.

Never heard of the song before but a little before my time. Not a bad song, very Dylanesque.

Is the lead singer chewing gum? I could never sing and chew gum at the same time. Come to think of it, I can’t sing with or without gum.

It looks like a wad of gum, lol. Back in the mid 70's no one in my groups were gum chewers but plenty were into chewing tobacco. I didn't care for either and still don't.

There's another YouTube video of the band playing the same song at another time, and he isn't chewing gum. So it was probably him just being a "rebel." You know, "too cool for school," and so forth.

Bill, tell us more about your "groups." Were/are you a musician? Or just anti-gum-chewing? :D

Dave

I like it!

I can honestly say I've never heard of it either. Apparently they were mainly a British act, but have enjoyed a rather long career.

This is the best part from their Wikipedia page.

“In 2018, "Make Me Smile" was used again in an advert for Viagra, the first one of its kind to air on UK television. Harley often jokes at his live concerts that his 1974 single, "Mr Soft", may have been more appropriate given the nature of the advert.”

I think it is pretty obvious the band is lip syncing in this video, which was pretty common for TV broadcasts in that timeframe. American Bandstand did it all the time, for example.

Well, I did play the rock-n-roll kazoo for a time. Pretty hard to chew gum and play a kazoo, lol. :) If air guitar counts then I'm still active.

Cool song. I always like to check out who else are in these types of bands and frequently find other artists that have other bands they played in that I never knew about. I have interest in the bass guitar and checking into who the bass player in this band was I discovered that he and his new wife were on Pan Am 103.

This is made even sadder by the fact that he and his wife were on their way to their honeymoon.

That was an old Reagan joke back in the 80s, Nancy gave him gum at bedtime for birth control.

Here is a song that I was listening to while my wife was shopping. I never heard this before. Another spotify gem.

This came on my Spotify feed. I remember when I heard it in the early 70's on AM radio. Liked it then and like it still.

There's a reason why some songs are (not-a) one-hit wonder.
IMHO, these may be better than some, but clearly "B" siders.

The Wilson sisters sing Stairway to Heaven. This video popped up on auto play.

I kind of like the acoustic guitar licks on this one.
