new monitor - dvi-i vs dvi-d?

I have just ordered a new monitor that will primarily be used for photo editing. I can use either an analog or digital connection. My video card has both connectors available, but the digital connector on the video card appears to be DVI-I while the monitor comes with a DVI-D. Are they compatible? It looks like the male cable from the monitor should fit the female connector on the video card. The male is just missing 2 pins.
