OK, most of us are fairly smart and probably wouldn't fall for something like this, but what about those of us who are currently seeking employment? I've gotten this exact e-mail 5 times today from different spoofed addresses (at least I'm guessing the addresses have been spoofed):

Dear Potential Employee,

After reviewing your resume we are pleased at what we have seen. To proceed we recommend that you upgrade your education level in order to comply with company policy. We ask that you call the number below and leave the area of your field/expertise so you can get the educational paperwork needed to show you have completed the level we require. We ask all candidates to obtain these additional educational documents in order to comply with company policy and to enhance internal workplace opportunities.

*This number is a 3rd party number which does NOT have any knowledge regarding your personal information, employment, or your required situation to upgrade for future employment.

Best Regards,

Human Resources Department

Please Call: 1-206-203-0258

Although this one has a decent grasp of the English language, it still doesn't read like anything a native English speaker would write.

Has anyone else got this e-mail?

206 area code is Seattle. Seattle also happens to be the base of operations for one individual who was by far the biggest perp in the fake diploma scams several years ago - probably two-thirds or more of those scams had a 206 number as the contact.

I doubt it's coincidence.

Some years back I didn't have a problem posting my resume online, minus address/phone, with a job-seeking-only email address.

Now, no way. I browse and submit for jobs I want. It's easy to keep track of which companies I've contacted. Besides, I'm way pickier now about what I would even consider - that could be difficult depending on your industry and how specialized you are.

Something like you received, tho, there is no company info, no reference to the job you applied for, nothing there that should compel you to comply. Good for you for spotting it as crap.

Don't get excited by what looks like a "we're interested" email. Job searches are stressful enuf, but keep your wits about you.

AND GOOD LUCK!!

The funny thing is that I'm not currently looking and my resume is not posted anywhere. Perhaps someone did post their resume and had a typo in the e-mail address and now I'm the benificeary of the spam they should be getting. The "To" line doesn't even have my correct address in it, so who knows what's going on.

Maybe I ought to call them collect from a pay phone and run up their expenses :)
