Just bought a grand Bliss unit at Puerto Vallarta Grand Mayan with several week types as part of the contract. Part of the sales pitch was that I could broker two of the contracted weeks each year to one of a half dozen managemment/marketing companies (Continental Connections, Resort Rentals, Alliance Integrated Marketing, My Vacation Brokers, Imperial Management, Destinations International) with lots of dollar return for these extra Weeks. Is this another sales scam or has anyone been successful in doing this? Thanks, Don

Much has been made of Grupo Vidanta (Mayan)'s marketing mistruths and promises not kept. Whatever was said verbally means nothing. It's all about your contract. Me, I'd rescind if you are within your legal rescission period. IMO, Mayan is a scam! Nice units, but they lie.

Best wishes!

Grand Mayan sales are renowned for high pressure sales tactics, promising guaranteed rental returns as they did you, and promising completion dates of new facilities with no factual information. What you have is what is in the contract; that will be honored. Anything else is a myth.

At the same time, they do offer other amenities at the Grand Bliss and Grand Luxxe level that give real vacation value that other resorts don't offer. Read your contract carefully so you will know what you actually have.

If your decision was based on items promised but not in the contract, then by all means rescind if you can. Another option if you are buying new and not upgrading is to rescind, buy a grand mayan unit resale, and upgrade to the GB. Upgrade costs are quite reasonable.

Umm, there is no Grand Mayan in Puerto Vallarta. Were you at the Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta? Nuevo Vallarta has the only completed Grand Bliss so far. Puerto Vallarta has only a Mayan Palace.
Don't go with the management/marketing companies. Only buy if you are using, it's not a money maker.

The rental market is FLOODED with cheap rentals in Mexico - you will not be able to rent your extra weeks for a profit, and may have problems renting them at ALL. If you bought based on the promise that you could rent them, to cover all your expenses, and/or make a profit - YOU SHOULD RESCIND!

Continental Connections

 Lets just say Continental Connections was one that was referred to me also for another fee. They haven' t rented any of my weeks in a year, and they told me they could rent them all before my first credit card payment. Yeah right! They are all working together with the resorts. All Scammers!!

Purchase to rent or enjoy??

First, I am not clear if you were staying at the GM and purchased or you own GM and upgraded...big difference!
Having been through 3 upgrades in 4 years, we did it for the equity and benefits offered at each progressive level and the changes with each new contract which were advantageous to us. While the "rental" information was promoted, this was not something we even considered. We purchased for our use and since one of the upgrades included the "no MF unless use" waiver, there is no incentive to rent because if we do not use there is no money out of pocket!
If you purchased simply to rent, then you should back out. If you upgraded, the equity and benefits made a minimal financial obligation obtain more in weeks and perks......then keep and enjoy. Down the road you could rent through sources already mentioned, not those offered through the sales department. Apparantly they cost a lot and do little to nothing. You can do better on your own for less, but not for huge $$$'s.
Best of luck in your decision.

Fishermandon, You were not alone. When we first traded in Villa Del Palmar 4 weeks for two weeks at the Mayan Palace N.V., subsequently upgraded to Grand Bliss ... we were offered the same deal for "guaranteed" rental. I called one in middle west and got a boozey-voiced woman who assured me MY RENTAL would go fast. Just send her $240 USD hich I sent via Amex. No action nor further contact and when the Amex bill arrived she had charged me $500.

Do I trust the sales dept there ever again? They lie through their teeth with such exageration -- it's amazing.

We only go to their presentations when it's 15% discount on the hotel charges but lowering it to 10% we go but only when we can insist on skipping the stupid breakfast mtg -- insist on hearing their pitch only while still in the lobby -- see their fancy numeral work and (tell them in advance) the first lie we catch, the session is over.
