I caught this because I caught an ad watching the local news, but there is a new free hula show at Waikiki Shell being put on by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement called Kilohana.

It pays tribute to the old Kodak Hula Show (With some people from that show), and features Merrie Monarch dancers and I actually found the quality to rival that of some luaus. The seats rise up rather than everyone being at ground level.

Currently running Sunday-Wednesday 9:30am-10:30am, I actually find the show worth the time to make an effort to go see, especially if you aren’t taking advantage of the discounted luaus for suffering through a sales presentation 😉

Thanks for the info. I like that it's a morning show.

It is a nice free show we went to the first one a couple of months ago. However, then we went to the Merry Monarch in April and got spoiled by the World Series of Hula.

This is a nice free show and worth the time. Another great free show is the Royal Hawaiian Band which is usuall at the Kapiolani Bandstand, which is a few feet from the Waikiki Shell on Sundays at 1PM, and at the Iolani Palace on Fridays at 12 Noon. You get a great live band with Hawaiian singing, and a great Hula Dancer at the Palace of the King and Queen of Hawaii.

Seeing the best in the world performing to their best is different than any sort of daily or weekly show.
