There is another BBS that I found that allows political post.
For those that get fustrated here.
This is a great place for Time sharing.

http://www.city-data.com/

Yes this site is a great place for Timeshare, that's what it was set up for.

It's not intended to be a site for political posts, the members know that & those who have been around for a while understand precisely why political posts are no longer permitted. No frustration whatsoever.

Every site has it's own terms and conditions which have to be adhered to.

If everyone posted a link to a forum that allows political/religion/etc. posts this thread would be 10,000 pages long. There are plenty of sites for that. Unfortunately, in most cases they degenerate into a non-sensical third-grade name calling playground.

Vigourous political debate is important and stimulating. The internet's anonomity simply allows for trolls and others who say things they would never say in respectful company.

Bingo.

I like a good debate -- the thrust and parry of point and counterpoint. It is, however, becoming a lost art. Most people cannot (or will not) debate. They're good at arguing, yelling, screaming, petulance, etc. But not so much on debate.

I never go to the political boards. Anyone that cares so much about politics that they'll get in arguments with strangers is probably somebody I don't really want to talk to. The fringes are getting more and more radical, and I want nothing to do with either side.

Back in the heyday of usenet, I rather enjoyed the occasional flamewar and admittedly engaged in a few myself.
Blowing off steam at real or imagined lunacies and silliness can be cathartic. Incessant politeness is not normal.

Hear, Hear! :)

BTW, I remember when politics and various other subjects were on allowed and discussed on TUG. I much prefer the way it is now, since I believe things are much more collegial and enjoyable. :)

I don't understand the need or desire to discuss politics here. As others have indicated there are countless blogs and forums out there where you can talk politics.

If you were on a political board would it make sense to talk about timesharing? Probably not. Why would it make sense to talk politics here on a timeshare board?

um yea, why would we want to talk about politics, when we can talk about dog food, American Idol, and all those other important "timeshare related;) " subjects???

I finally opted out of a political board on another website as I found myself drawn to that board and not reading the timeshare threads. like other people have said there are plenty of places to discuss politics but why ? your not going to change my political persuasion and I'm not going to change yours. :D

The Lounge is under General Discussion, a place to talk about everything else, EXCEPT the stuff that often ends up in heated arguments.

And, to steal from Groucho Marx, why would I want to take seriously what was said at any board that would accept me as a participant?

Heck, I don't take seriously what is said on any board, including whatever I say.

These other subjects usually don't end in rage, personal attacks, and an I am always right attitude. It is well known that religion and politics shouldn't be discussed if you want discussion to remain civil. This is true here and in the "real world".

Isn't that unfortunate? I like discussing (not debating), considering pros and cons, learning about different points of view, and weighing the issues. It's sad that it's hard to have an open-minded discussion about some topics.

but we can still talk about sex!

Well....it kind of depends. Anything that became explicit, pornographic, or a contentious social issue would be a [no]-no.

From the TUG posting rules:

By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

Occasionally we get off-color jokes, but besides that, not much in the way of sex. Not too long ago we had a discussion about kids sharing sexual info. at school and how to deal with it, but that was very mild and conservative.

I can't help it, a non-no would mean it's ok! TEASING, I simply cannot resist a fun typo.

and in case mom has learned how to use a computer, Look Ma, I'm talking about sex on the internet! [she sends me political stuff I don't agree with all the time, so, this would drive her crazy in return]

Certainly it is unfortunate, but for those of us who remember the days when the subjects were permitted I suspect 99% of us are glad they, along with the major antagonists on such subjects, are gone. There was a perception that moderation of political discussion was itself politically biassed and that created additional problems of its own.

Oh, I agree completely. I am happy that TUG is friendly and polite most of the time, and that the mods deal with the issue when it isn't.

I just wish it was possible to have an open minded discussion without an argument. After all, TUGgers are as a whole intelligent, experienced, humorous, and well-spoken, so it would be nice if we COULD talk about political or social issues as nicely as we talk about vacuum cleaners, downsizing, remodeling, bathtub paint, our parents, our kids, and their nemeses such as Drew Lingidiot.

We've occasionally seen that it apparently is not possible, so I agree that it's better to keep TUG discussions on "safe" topics.

my frustration with it all is, they stand in front of you on tv with their nice clothes and pretty smiles, and tell you how hard they will work, and how bad they want it, so you vote for them. And then when it comes time to really shine, they perform so terribly you cannot wait to unvote them!

oh, what a sec, I thought this was the American Idol thread....nevermind.....:D

That would be possible if there weren't idiots around who don't agree with my views on religion and politics. :D  :hysterical:
