  • Florida seems an obvious choice but we'll be in Orlando in January
  • Hilton Head, Williamsburg and, Myrtle Beach will be too cold.
  • We are not skiers :(
  • Traveling with mom and dad are 3 children 6 or under and a wheelchair bound senior.

Any suggestions?

Charles

Will it really be too cold in late March on Hilton Head? I just confirmed two weeks beginning 3/14 - 3/28/08 and thought, it won't be 90 degrees but most likely in the 70's in late March. We don't swim in the ocean, just walk the beach and as long as there's sun and a heated pool, the HHI location can't be beat. Our teenage daughters were disappointed that we didn't get a nice Florida location confirmed but I'm finding that Florida beach spots are getting harder to come by, especially during Spring Break. So, we've committed to HHI instead this year. I'm looking forward to it and hope we get lucky with warm enough but not hot weather.

Tool cold to spend a day by the pool - for my family.

The average high for my dates is 68 to 70. I don't think I'll be comfortable sitting by the pool after taking a dip. And the ocean will definitely be too cold.

in the same boat from DC

our Spring Break is 3/15-3/23/2007. I agree, too cold for HHI, MB, etc.
I would have loved Marco, Sanibel, the Keys---but no decent trades at 1 year out (I checked repeatedly). We go to Disney/Orlando every Spring Break and are giving it a rest for 2008.
At this point, we are going to Fla, staying 1 night NickHotel and then going on a 4 day cruise out of Port Canaveral. If any one has better ideas--I would like to know, as well. We are a family of 5 with kids 6,6,10 and don't want to ski either.

We have been in Myrtle Beach in March and the weather was in the 80's. In March it can go either way. HHI is generally warmer than Myrtle Beach. The only way you are guarenteed warmer weather on the Eastern Coast is to go further South.

We go through that every year and still haven't booked for 2008. Florida is the only driving location we can be sure will be warm and we're a bit tired of Disney.

Would take any nice Gulf coast beach location, but they are hard to find. I'd like to try Ron Jon's or Vero Beach on the east. I've seen them for weeks all around ours, but not for a 3/14 - 16 checkin. I've seen the Panhandle, but think it could be chilly there too, depending on the luck of the draw with the weather.

We have done the Hilton Head area and been cold. Did Williamsburg one year and Busch Gardens was only open on weekends and the weather was lousy. Some years it is warm here in March but other years it's snowing. Not willing to risk that. Went to DC and were there too early for the cherry blossoms. I saw one bloom on our last day.

I worked in Boston one year mid-March and it was surprisingly warm and pleasant. Wouldn't want to count on that either, though.

Short of flying somewhere (which I can't really afford) we may be at Disney again next year.

Thanks and Questions

Ocean Point, Beach Place Towers, Dessert Springs

We may like Ocean Pointe well enough this Fall to want to return in the Spring - so that is definetely a possibility. Beach Place always gets a bum rap, e.g., worn, have to pay for parking, and other negative comments that I can't recall specifically but still sit somewhere in the back of my mind. Dessert Springs? I always think of Dessert Springs as a resort for golfers [I don't golf either and I'm begining to sound like someone who needs a life  ]. I'll have to read some reviews to see what's there for mom, dad and the kiddles [gran-mama will be happy no matter where we take her  ].

We still have school age children but have been fortunate enough because our area in NJ has changed the Spring break to late April, after Easter, due to testing for the last 2 years. This has been great because now it is an off week. Less crowded and warmer due to it being closer to May. Many do not like it because it is not Easter week but it works out better for us.

Why not HHI ???

We have been going to HHI during our Spring break in Maryland for years with dates in March and April. HHI is always our choice as Spring is a lovely time to be there. While you will give up being able to go into the ocean; kids and parents can still walk the beach and play in the sand and there is always the pool as a backup. March is clearly a changing month in HH but you will be coming towards the end of the month and while not guaranteed warm weather, i would go for it. Good luck

PS- Orlando cannot compare to HHI, no ambiance and too many mice to feed.

How nice to find a neighbor posting on this board!

I've been to HHI at the end of March, needed to wear a sweatshirt with my shorts but it sure beat the weather in NW Ohio. Sunny and many kids with blue lips in the pool. Of course it was lovely and in the 80's the week before I got there.:wall:

Few years later I was there in the middle of April and it was perfect.

By the way, our district still does Spring Break at Easter, as our state testing is early May(last yr 4/30-5/2). Big cluster with the state not figuring out that Easter moves most years.:annoyed: We're going to Vero Beach this year, I'll be moused out after going for Thanksgiving and MLK weekend.
