We are taking the grandkids to Disney next March 09 and again in April(other family). The March grandkids are 7.5 & 9.5 and have been to Disney World and Disneyland several times. They have also been to SeaWorld a several times. We are trying to think of something different to do after we do Epcot again. Someone suggested Disney Quest. Has anyone done this with this age children and did they enjoy it? We are going to be staying in Fort Wilderness this time, so that will be new for them.
Any other suggestions would be great.
Thanks for any help,
Sherry

Swim With The Dolphins.

Any other suggestions would be great.
How about a day at Discovery Cove, swimming with the dolphins, etc. ?

Also be sure to plan plenty of time just enjoying your resort. Kids love to go swimming and many could do it all day every day and have a blast. I'm sure you will get some other good suggestions here.

That is VERY expensive ...about $200 per person, but if you are willing to spend the money, it is a great experience.

DisneyQuest is a giant video arcade and virtural game experience. The kids will like it, but you may not as it is loud and lots of flashing lights.

There is minature golf, Downtown Disney, movies, and hanging out at the pool.

Other good options are the various things like WonderWorks, Ripleys, Guniess World Records, Medieval knights, etc.

I took my two boys who were 5 & 9 at the time to Universal's Islands of Adventure. That was 2 years ago, and they are still talking about it. They liked it even better than Disney.

If they enjoy animals, I think Sea World is a good choice at their ages.

If they're a bit daring, don't miss Universal's Islands of Adventure. Many school-aged kids and teens prefer it over Disney's parks.

Orlando has a nice, hands-on science center too.

International Drive offers many diversions... Sea World's new water park, Aquatica... mini-golf w/various adventure themes... other museums. Looking beyond the Disney offerings, you'll find a whole other world of fun things to do with kids!

If you want a natural setting, there are lovely state parks. Blue Springs Park is just an hour's drive away. Lovely park with manatees in season, boat rentals and swimming in crystal clear, cool waters (like an aquarium) at other times.

Great ideas.....keep them coming. These kids are FISH and do love the water. But we are going to be at our home near the beach on the west coast for a week after Disney, so we are not looking for a water park adventure there. Thanks for the info on Disney Quest. That is just what we wanted to know about it. Not what we want to do at this age... Can someone explain more about Universal Islands of adventure? We will be in an MH at Fort Wilderness with no car, so can we get a cab to come in the park and pick us up???????
Not sure I want to spend $200 for them to swim with the dolphins at this age. They may need to be abit older to do that and not be afraid. We've seen lots of dolphin shows, but being in the water with them.....I'd want to make sure my $$$$ was appreciated!
Thanks for the great ideas. Would love to hear more.

Discovery Cove is indeed a lovely day, but waiting a couple of years til they're older and will remember it better is a good idea. Not everyone has to do the dolphin experience; there are different prices for with and without.

Last year we went to Orlando for my grandson's 8th birthday, and of everything there his choice was Islands of Adventure. He loves to do the Discovery Center, scanning the "dinosuar eggs -- but that wouldn't appeal to everyone. The character brunch is fun -- Spiderman and Cat in the Hat, etc. We love the Spiderman ride -- the best one of its kind. You want to head to the Pteranodon flyers first thing when that area opens -- the line for it is prohibitively long most of the day. Like Disney -- you want to be at the park when the gates open. It has a range of roller-coasters for those who do those (I don't). The drop from the Jurassic Park river ride was too much for us, but fine for most who like that sort of thing. I really like the Bluto's barges. Don't bother with Poseidon -- it looks wonderful on the outside, but is really lame. The talking fountain near the stunt show is fun. It's a more thrill oriented park than Disney, but also lots of visually neat stuff. Even with a few negatives for us, it might be our favorite park -- (well, Magic Kingdom will always be my all-time favorite, and I really like Epcot) -- for its mix of things.
I'm sure you can get a cab -- and that has the advantage of a closer drop-off and pick-up. I have trouble imagining being without a car, even staying on property (rental prices usually don't seem too bad in Orlando). Using Disney transport is restrictive, and we always seem to need something from a supermarket, or want to go to someplace non-Disney once or twice.

I don't care for Disney Quest, but expect when DGS is a couple of years older, may try to suffer through it again for him.

Universal Studios is a 20-30 minute drive from Disney. I am not sure of cab costs, but if you rent a car, parking is not cheap at Universal.

If you haven't done Busch Gardens in Tampa, the kids would probably enjoy that. They have a really cheap bus ($5 I think) that they run twice a day from Seaworld to get you to the sister park. The theme for Tampa is Africa, so there are plenty of animals in natural surroundings. There are also a lot more rides than at Seaworld.
