We are driving to Orlando (Disney visit #27!) in June and are thinking of spending a night in Savannah or St. Augustine, or both. I'm not sure if we'll do it going down or coming back. Can anyone recommend places to stay?

We're travelling with 2 children, 4 and 7, but would like to avoid chain hotels if possible. We'd prefer something with a bit more character.

Thanks!

Depends on how much you want to spend, but if you want something of quality in Savannah, I'd suggest you look at bedandbreakfast.com. Try to get something close to Forsyth Square, that's where most of the history and pretty stuff is.

The New Hilton in the City of St. Augustine is part of the Old Town.

If you want to stay in the City of St. Augustine in the Old Town you might want to see about this new Hilton. While this is a chain Hotel this new Hotel has the character of the Old Town.

If you want to stay on St. Augustine Beach, the Hampton has a great location.

Summer is the prime time in St Augustine. So, I would make reservations as soon as possible.
