I’m taking a solo trip to Pompano Beach at the end of the month and need some dining and sightseeing recommendations from my fellow Tuggers that are familiar with the area. I’m staying at Wyndham Royal Vista from 9/28-10/2. I’ve been to Miami and South Beach but it’s been about 15 years so I don’t remember much about it. I’ve never been to the Keys and it looks like Key Largo is about a 2 hour drive. I’m considering doing that one day just to say I’ve been there. If anyone has done that in a day trip, was it worth it? TIA for your suggestions.

Seaside Grill (in Lighthouse Cove resort, on N. Ocean Blvd., 30 blocks or so north of Royal Vista)
Stinger's (30 yards across the street from Royal Vista)
The restaurant in the Beachcomber resort, next to Royal Vista, used to be pretty good.

You can day trip to Key West from Pompano Beach. The Islamorada Fish Company is pretty good.

We have done the drive, right to Key West, from VV@Weston and just a few years ago from Pompano Beach and back in 1 day. We left early (7am I think) and were back to the timeshare by 11pm. It makes for a long day but we had a great time. Luckily long distance driving doesnt bother DH at all. On our last trip our adult DD was with us and she had never been south of Miami on land. We also made a short stop at Bahai Honda State Park where DH & camped in the late '70's so she could see it as well. If you are just going to Key Largo your day wont be nearly as long. You will also miss driving on Seven Mile Bridge! We drove on the old original one in the late 70's and it was quite the experience!

Thanks. I’ll be by myself and I don’t want to drive that long. Islamorda is probably as far as I’ll want to go on this trip. DW and I want to drive out to Key West sometime. That will be interesting. She hates long bridges.
