This has been a very hard year. My dad was diagnosed with cancer in March and died last month. My brother and his family were wonderful. I do not live in our hometown, so all the work fell to my brother. I want to give them a week in Orlando this summer as a present for Christmas. Looking at possible trades, there are a number I could do. I have no idea which resort. This is a family of 6. 2 adults, and 4 teenagers. 3 boys and a girl. Those of you familiar with Orlando timeshares, which should I book. I would want the one that has the most options there at the resort that don't cost money to entertain the kids. They can not afford Disney for the entire week, and it would help if there was a lot to do at the resort for the kids. The ones I could trade for are: Parkway International, Mystic Dunes, Marriott Sabal Palm, Marriott Royal Palm, Liki Tiki Village, Sheraton Vistania, Star Island, and Westgate, Palace, Westgate Towers, and Westgate Vacation Villas. Thank you so much for the help.

From your list, my choice would be Sabal or Royal Palm.
(I have stayed at those two, and Star Island.)

However, that isn't from the perspective of " a lot to do at the resort for kids".

Pat

p.s. Sabal is closer (both could be considered within walking distance) to the Marriott World Center than Royal.

Not luxury - this is kids stuff

While the nicest of those are the Marriott's those are not the most kid friendly. For that I'd go (in order) Vistana, Star Island, Liki Tiki. The Westgates aren't good (WVV being the exception as it has a ton of on site stuff but you need to avoid the never ending sales). The rest are OK but not super kid based. If it's for the kids mainly then go mwith the top three or WVV and they will be fully entertained all week.

Sheraton Vistana Resort - it is close to Disney and has lots of stuff for kids of all ages to do.

that say would pay some WDW tickets for them too.

having been the caretaker - you have no ideal of the time, responsible, and money - that they probably invested.

I truly second that analysis as the sibling who lived near my parents as they aged (and are now gone). The cost of a nice vacation is not just the timeshare condo, but park tickets and some gift cards for restrauants.

UMMMM
Yall are right. So I can not get a family of 6 tickets for a week, but, I could do something.....any ideas?

Sorry about your Dad, but you're a very thoughtful sister/brother? to make this generous offer.

Have you thought about trading for a beach week instead of Orlando? It could be a less expensive alternative to Orlando, since you won't have the added expense of theme park tix. I don't know what you're using to trade, but I was thinking of a week at Marriott's Ocean Pointe or BeachPlace Towers might work for them, or if they prefer the other coast, Legend's Edge and the Panama City beach area. Also, restaurant.com has reduced price certificates (with discount codes posted here on TUG), often just $2 for a $25 value certificate.

Just thought I'd throw out this idea to you since Disney is quickly becoming cost prohibitive for families. However, if you prefer Disney, you could buy them all 1-day park-hoppers and they could do a marathon Disney day and enjoy the rest of the week at the resort. Can you get Grande Vista? My teens loved it there and wouldn't have missed Disney if it wasn't offered. Sorry I can't help with the other resorts that you mention.

Maybe 3 days Disney multi-park passes?
Liz

Sounds like a good balance. 1 day is a tease and would cause hate & discontent among the kids. 3 days would exhaust the kids, but not kill off the parents totally.;)

After my parents had passed and then one of our favorite aunts died, I hosted a 10 day long "my birthday party week". I invited the 4 siblings (& spouses, no kids) to a Spring vacation - we all had a great time. It allowed us to re-connect, build new experiences, and pretend we were adults.

Thank you so much for posting. I have many of the same questions. Which resorts the poster mentioned are closest to the Disney Parks? I am really considering Liki Tiki mainly because of more space. Ages of kids are 4,6,13,15.
Grandparents hubby and myself and one set of the childrens parents they will be staying in a hotel room alone.
We are exchanging for a place in Orlando and also using a week we own in New Smryna on the beach. Orlando first and then finish the week at the beach.

Liki Tiki is at the bottom of our list after one stay.

Mystic Dunes and Vistana are very nice and very close to Disney.

Liki Tiki Pool ?

Liki Tiki is at the bottom of our list after one stay.
We've never stayed at Liki Tiki but we checked it out 1 time -- after coming this close to buying it (resale) sight-unseen.

The pool looked very nice & inviting -- almost like a small water park, with lots of fun stuff for kids.

That was back when the place was still known as Isle Of Bali. Later it was known as Ron Jon briefly before being renamed Liki Tiki.

While I'd agree that there are other resorts that are more aimed at kids - even within the group of Orlando Marriotts, I'd suggest that Marriott's Sabal Palms and Royal Palms resorts do have kids programs and pools that should keep the kids entertained if the family is looking for that sort of thing. I'd point out, though, that the activities program is split between the three timeshare resorts in that group (Sabal, Royal and the Imperial Palm Villas) so it's not as centralized as in the more self-contained resorts.

As John Chase noted, and I agree, those Marriotts are the nicest of the resorts that you mentioned. And, while others have pointed out the proximity of Vistana Resort to Disney, I'd mention that these Marriotts are just around the corner from Vistana (Royal Palms is separated from Vistana but a wall) and are, in fact, closer to Disney than is Vistana.

If it were me I'd go with Marriott's Royal Palms - great location, nice villas, good facilities and hosts the majority of the kids activities offered at this tri-timeshare resort area.

What about Williamsburg instead? Cheap amusement parks, lots of history and things to do, and it's pretty easy to get in exchange.

If they are anywhere near the West Coast, how about Disneyland instead?

If you are stuck on Disneyworld, any Marriott for us.

Williamsburg isn't a half-bad idea. They usually offer something called a "bounce" ticket---Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, and the Colonial district for seven consecutive days---admission to all three, come and go as you please, and parking was included. Last summer, the adult tickets were a bit under $100 each, and the child tickets were a little over $80. It was an awesomely good bargain, much better than nearly anything in Orlando would be, and a really good time. If that price point could work for them, then they wouldn't have to worry about hanging out at the resort for their entertainment.

I will add the second bedroom in a Marriott Sabal Palms 2 bedroom is tiny, more than 2 teenagers they'd be on top of each other, even 2 teenagers might find it a bit claustrophobic. Sabal Palms and Royal Palms have a mini shuttle service that goes up to the Marriott World Center. That would allow the teenagers to feel like they were being grown up but not totally roaming free.

Teenagers might be more interested in Universal than Disney, the rides at Universal are a bit more extreme and the 2 park 4 day tickets are not much more than the 2 park 1 day tickets. Even if they are not big Harry Potter fans the Harry Potter Forbidden Journey ride at Universal would impress any teenager, add The Hulk and Spiderman rides, and most teenagers would be pretty happy.
