Hi

I was checking to see if anyone knew of a direct person to contact at Wyndham Smokey Mtns? I have a reservation for tomorrow and family checking in today at the Resort. Problems is I have been calling since Sept 12th and they still keep telling me that they have no Handicap Rooms. My Mother is completely disabled in a wheelchair and needs (grab bars to move in the bathroom) and I also am in a wheelchair. I have spoken to Allision Peace in Guest Services and she was suppose to call me back yesterday ( so I left a message for her) and I have had no response today either.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks

Cyn

You should call the resort. According to the Wyndham site, I can't find any handicapped suites. Just call the front desk. That's all you can do.

I assumed you had called the resort. If you haven't, that's who you should try. I called a few days ahead and made special request for location and view and got what I wanted. Mind you that was not handicap, but they did note my request and give it to me. It was the week after 4th of July and the resort was packed. This is lower season I think, unless it's busy up there due to the leaf changing season. My bottom line is the staff at the desk was very accommodating. Make sure to call when they aren't terribly busy. I think I tried at 1 pm. After checkout and before new check-ins.

Call the 1-800 reservation number. Per the 2011-2012 Member's Directory, your Vacation Planning Counselor has the details. Page 9. (I paraphase the member's directory). Below is the exact wording as I typed from the directory.

"Accessible Units
Some units are accessible for guests with disabilities and others with mobility limitations. Because disablilities and limitations needs may vary, please ask your Vacation Planning Counselor for details."

Under "resort fast facts" on page 175, it lists:
Accessible Units

Under Year Built, the years range from 2000-2008; 2001-2008, and 2001/05-08. ADRA would have applied to some of the later constructed units (perhaps, depending on when that building was permitted, site plan approval or state requirements/regulations).

However, if the Handicap units needed by these guests were NOT RESERVED at the time of reservation was made and are occupied by other "needs based" guests, the resort MAY not be able to accommodate their requests. Remember, if the guests holding a reservation in a unit (ie the 4bdr Presidental built in 2008 as a disable unit) would/should not be denied their accommodations unless they voluntarily give up the unit or if no similiar size unit is available for their use. And if the OP did not make immedately attempts when booking the original reservation to reserved or discover the availablity of a "needs based" unit, the resort may be held harmless (via page 9 request to discuss if with the Vacation Planning Counselor).

Good luck.

My thoughts exactly. For internal bookings, Accessible units are a specific booking category---you must specifically book it to be guaranteed of it. For RCI exchanges, you have to call the resort, but at that point it is only a request. If they have already been reserved for other guests who also require them, there isn't much you can do.

Hi

I wanted to say thanks for all your suggestions and ideas.I finally spoke to someone and they are still checking for a H/C unit. I hope we don't have to cancel our trip. Our other family members will be checking in to their unit in about 1 hour or so.This is our family get together each year. Hope to have our unit available tomorrow?

Thanks again!

Cyn

handicap unit

How did this work out? Last year I reserved a handicap unit for my mother in law at Smoky Mtn. A week out the resort called and asked if it was necessary. I told them if she could have lower floor with no steps she would be fine. She is not in wheel chair but has leg pain. She was happy with the room the put her in. She was able to be very close to where she parked.
