My father in law is in the hospital for an extended period of time and no visitors have been allowed for a week and we know that will not lift anytime soon.
Those closest to him are reaching out via phone/text.....but there are so many others out there that want to wish him well.....

I thought of creating a FB account for him as a way for extended family and friends to reach out to him to him with directed messages, funny photos, etc.

The account has been established. But, I need this to be simple for him. Just something he can log into, see messages and be done. He doesn't need this to be a place full of seeing what all his friends are posting about on other topics.

How do I go about doing this?

I am not sure, but I would think if he doesn’t mark follow on his individual friends, he will not see their posts, but will see if they post on his page. At least that has worked for me.

I would get a list of the close friends and relatives that you want to have access to him and send them friend requests. I have no idea how to curate peoples feed in any significant way other than unfollowing those that are posting things that defy your standards. One thing is the facebook messaging where you can video chat. We have never had that work well becuase of audio problems. We have not worked that hard at the problem due to the ease of whatsap and facetime. The facetime chats with the grandkids that we cannot see now are a godsend for us.

What device are you planning for his access?

I dont think this is an issue for him. As long as he stays on his page he can see what others have posted to him and he can reply to their comments if he wants. If he goes to his friends pages that is the only way he will see what his friends are posting on other topics. Not likely he will figure that out. If that is an issue set up a facebook page and ask his friends to send him emails and only you use facebook to see if they have questions. But then you have to post his email address for all to see.....

Also remember he has to accept them as friends. Maybe something you can do for him.

Honestly if he is not computer literate and never had a facebook page this just might be a cause of a lot of frustration for him and you. Maybe better of with people just texting, emailing, or calling.
